The discovery of San Juan in ARA San Juan: The Submarine that Disappeared explained

ARA San Juan: The Submarine that Disappeared ends with the discovery of the submarine but stirs up a lot more questions that need answers.

When the friends and families of San Juan’s victims are advised to hire a private company to look for San Juan, the search for such a company begins.

At first, the government choose a Spanish company for the job without seeking the permission of the victims’ families. There were several things wrong with this choice.

The victims’ families fight back, and finally, after many months, the Argentinian government hires Ocean Infinity, a very powerful company.

The victims’ families also imposed some clauses, allowing at least four of them to join the search operation as overseers of all the activities done on board the vessel that will be looking for San Juan.

The results of the investigation

Ocean Infinity brings aboard the best ship that they have for searches like these. Ocean Infinity suspects a structure that was initially identified as a rock formation.

Upon investigating, they discover remnants of San Juan. The submarine is found exactly a year later in an area near the submarine’s last reported position.

Even though the news satisfies the victims’ families to some extent, there is a bigger mystery surrounding the discovery.

Two days before finding the ship, the President of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, hints in his speech that he already knows that the submarine is going to be discovered.

The mysteries

The recovery of the submarine exactly a year later sounds strange to many. The submarine is discovered in one of the places the Navy searched the most.

A year ago, many countries came together to look for the submarine. One of the participating vessels was a Chilean ship. The commander of the ship claims that he detected the silhouette of the ARA San Juan with their sonar.

However, the information he reported was dismissed. He was told that it is not San Juan. It is suspected that the ship was found a year ago, but it was kept from the world.

Ocean Infinity also comes under suspicion, as the best company took time to find the wreckage.

It is said that when such explorations take place, the data becomes useful for submitting a bid for oil exploration, and Ocean Infinity also works in seabed exploration for oil.

There is also an ongoing investigation into the images of the submarine captured by Ocean Infinity, which are also suspected to be from a year ago.
