The Abbot: Castlevania: Nocturne character explained

In Castlevania: Nocturne, the Abbot is a religious man who makes a deal with a demon to crush the revolution. The Abbot is voiced by Richard Dormer.

The Abbot in Castlevania: Nocturne opposes the French Revolution, as he believes that the revolution is led by a Godless mob that seeks to upend the natural order of things.

According to him, the revolution is the work of the Devil. As a religious man who serves God, he takes it upon himself to put an end to the revolution, even if it means joining hands with the evilest of all vampires.

The Forgemaster

When Richter and Maria first hear about the Vampire Messiah, they go to speak to the Abbot about the issue. The Abbot has his army of monks, and if he decides to help them, they will have more people fighting the vampires with them.

What they do not know is that the Abbot is forging night creatures, demons who are made from human corpses that are grafted onto souls from Hell, in the abbey’s basement. The Abbot raises his army of night creatures using the corpses given to him by the vampires.

He bribed a demon from Hell to give him the power to forge night creatures. He became a Forgemaster, but he must pay the price when the time comes. His power gets the attention of the Vampire Messiah, and they join forces to crush the revolution.

The ones he loves

When Tera first came to Machecoul from Russia, it was the Abbot who helped her. She had nothing, and the townspeople were suspicious of her. The Abbot welcomed her at the abbey and showed her compassion.

Tera thinks the Abbot is a good man and does not believe that he is helping the vampires. Only when she witnesses it herself, she believes that the Abbot is not the same person she once knew him to be.

The Abbot then pays her and Maria a visit, and it is revealed that he is Maria’s father. He promises Tera that he will keep Maria safe, as he loves his daughter, even though they do not see eye to eye. However, he gets ready to kill Maria when Erzsebet asks him to sacrifice his daughter to seal their alliance.

With time, the Abbot grows more and more delusional. When Mizrak, the Abbot’s loyal right-hand man, sees the Abbot doing all sorts of godless things and fighting on the side of evil, he decides to work with Richter and his group to stop him.

They save Maria from being killed by the Abbot. However, Erzsebet wants someone who is loved by the Abbot to be sacrificed to her. She knows that the Abbot will never worship anyone other than his God, so in order to earn his loyalty, she wants to turn Maria into a vampire.

However, Tera decides to sacrifice herself to save Maria. The Abbot had been waiting for God to save Maria miraculously. When Tera tells him that God has given him a sacrificial lamb to protect their daughter, the Abbot then tells Erzsebet that he loves Tera, and Tera is turned into a vampire.

The Abbot tries to stop Drolta from going after Maria and her friends. He keeps trying to convince Drolta that Erzsebet needs him to crush the revolution, but he realizes that he never had any power, as he loses Tera and is unable to stop Drolta from pursuing his daughter.
