Erzsebet Bathory is the Vampire Messiah in Castlevania: Nocturne, who aims to make vampires invincible. Franka Potente voices Erzsebet Bathory.
Cecile, Annette’s teacher, is a powerful seer who has a sinister vision of the future. It tells her that the rise of the Vampire Messiah in Europe will bring death and destruction. She tells Annette that the Messiah must be stopped or there will be endless suffering.
The legend of the Vampire Messiah
Vampires were told that their Messiah would come when there would be disorder, slave uprisings, and war. They take the French Revolution, which threatens their power along with that of aristocracy and clergy, as a sign of their Messiah’s arrival.
This leads to vampires flocking to France. Vampires and the aristocracy have been close allies, preying on the poor for centuries. Vampires have had to rely on the aristocracy, and a lot of them resent that.
The Messiah, also known as the Devourer of Light, promises that vampires will not have to depend on anyone anymore and will get to be the rulers. It is believed that the Messiah will bring eternal darkness, which will do away with one of the biggest weaknesses of vampires — getting burned in the Sun.
The Messiah is believed to be a goddess. She was once a child who was considered insane, but then she drank the blood of the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet, the daughter of Ra, which gave her all of Sekhmet’s powers and turned her into a vampire that cannot be defeated.
The Messiah’s arrival
Annette tells Richter, Tera, and Maria that the Vampire Messiah is Countess Erzsebet Bathory, a woman Tera has encountered in the past. Tera left Russia because of Erzsebet, who had taken Tera’s sister hostage.
Unlike other vampires, Erzsebet does not simply kill her victims; she tortures them and makes them suffer for as long as possible before they die. She takes delight in their suffering.
Now, she wants to crush the revolution and then make the most powerful rulers and religious heads bow down to her. She plans to conquer America after conquering Europe.
She is welcomed and worshipped like a goddess. She even had the Abbot, a religious man, working for her and forging night creatures to add to Erzsebet’s army. However, Erzsebet knows that he will never worship her.
Erzsebet uses her unequaled powers to conceal the Sun with the Moon. The never-ending eclipse allows the vampires to roam around freely during the day as well. She then takes the form of Sekhmet.

When Erzsebet’s vampires fight Richter’s group and Erzsebet enters the Abbey, everyone feels her presence and is struck with fear. To secure the Abbot’s loyalty forever, she asks him to sacrifice his daughter, Maria, to her.
Erzsebet does not want the Abbot to kill his daughter; she wants him to let her turn his daughter into a vampire. Richter and the others try to fight her to save Maria, but none of their attacks work, as she is truly invincible.
Tera has no choice but to convince Erzsebet to take her instead of her daughter. When the Abbot claims that he loves Tera as well, Erzsebet turns her into a vampire, and no one is able to stop her. Erzsebet remains undefeated in the first season of Castlevania: Nocturne.
