Plot summary

To find a cure for monsterization, the government has set up the Bamseom Emergency Management Bureau. There, a scientist, Dr. Lim, has been experimenting on monsters to understand the curse.

Dr. Lim thinks that monsterization is nature’s way of controlling the damage that humans have done to the planet. He also claims that there is a vaccine that can stop humans from turning into monsters.

At a time when anyone can become a monster, the military has been trying to separate survivors from those who have been showing symptoms. The soldiers treat survivors harshly and execute those they suspect of being infected without a second thought.

When Hyun-su wakes up after getting kidnapped by Jang Ui-myeong, he immediately recognizes the man who has taken him as Ui-myeong, who is in Sang-wook’s body. Ui-myeong wants to save the monsters that are being treated as lab rats at the bureau.

However, due to a car accident, Ui-myeong and Hyun-su are captured by the military and taken to the bureau. While Ui-myeong manages to escape, Hyun-su willingly agrees to be a test subject to help Dr. Lim make the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Yi-kyung sneaks into the bureau to look for her fiancé. Ui-myeong gets to her fiancé, who is known as MH1, before her. By the time Yi-kyung finds her fiancé, he is already dead.

Yi-kyung cries for her fiancé and falls to her knees in pain. It is revealed that Yi-kyung is pregnant. She ends up prematurely delivering a daughter, who turns out to be a monster. Yi-kyung tries to kill the baby, but she cannot bring herself to do it.

The Green Home survivors struggle to find a safe shelter. Eun-yu wants to find her brother and forces Park Chan-yeong, the soldier who is escorting them to a shelter, to take them to Green Home. The building has been wrecked, and Eun-hyeok is nowhere to be found.

The Green Home survivors are then taken to another shelter, where they find themselves in danger once again. When Dr. Lim refuses to hand over the vaccine to the Prime Minister, the minister decides to kill all survivors.

To control monsterization, he uses missiles to attack the shelter and kill all humans before they can turn into monsters. A soldier, Master Sergeant Tak, catches wind of his plans and stops the Prime Minister before all survivors are killed.

The Prime Minister has to be executed when he turns into a monster. With him gone, Master Sergeant Tak, who is part of the Crow Platoon, takes charge of saving the survivors. He moves them underground, where he meets Chief Ji, a woman who has been hiding there with some people.

Chief Ji welcomes the survivors that the Crow Platoon brings and even shares her supplies with them. By the time the whole ordeal is over, the Green Home survivors lose Su-yeong and Ji-su, who dies protecting Yeong-su.

On the other hand, Ui-myeong fights and defeats Hyun-su, as Hyun-su refuses to join him in his war against humans. Ui-myeong then frees all the monsters at the Bamseom Emergency Management Bureau.

337 days after the monsterization outbreak, all the survivors are still living underground in a stadium. The Crow Platoon enforces the laws that have been established for the safety of the survivors.

The survivors are not allowed to leave the stadium; it is the Crow Platoon that goes out to gather supplies. Although the survivors follow Master Sergeant Tak’s rules, Chief Ji is also respected by them, as she keeps the place running.

Some time ago, Chief Ji’s husband, Mr. Kim, was killed after he suddenly started turning into a monster and attacked Eun-yu. Eun-yu was saved by another monster, but everyone believes that she killed Mr. Kim, which is why she is disliked by the survivors.

Chief Ji is waiting for Eun-yu to turn into a monster to kill her. She also has an ulterior motive. When she involves her daughter, Ye-seul, in her schemes, Master Sergeant Tak starts doubting her. Chief Ji does not think twice before throwing Ye-seul under the bus.

Eun-yu is the only survivor who keeps sneaking out of the camp and makes it back alive every single time. Eun-yu puts herself in danger again and again because she is trying to find Eun-hyeok. Whenever she is attacked, she is mysteriously saved by a monster, and she believes that it is Eun-hyeok who has been rescuing her.

On one such outing, Eun-yu meets Yi-kyung’s daughter, who has the ability to turn humans into monsters instantly, without them showing any symptoms. After giving birth to a monster, Yi-kyung was not able to kill her daughter, so she abandoned her.

The girl was brought up by Hyun-su until Yi-kyung decided to be part of her daughter’s life. One day, Yi-kyung’s daughter was attacked by a group of humans. The attack did not kill her but changed her appearance. That day, she used her powers for the first time.

Yi-kyung’s daughter grows up believing that her mother is scared of her and does not love her. Yi-kyung has a hard time accepting the fact that her daughter is a monster, yet she does not want to be separated from her again. Yi-kyung’s harsh treatment leads to her daughter leaving her after setting fire to their home.

Eun-yu had earlier left the stadium to follow Yi-kyung, and Park Chan-yeong had accompanied her to stop her. Park Chan-yeong is a kind soldier, and as he keeps questioning Eun-yu about her troubles, she tells him about the monster who has been saving her.

Eun-yu and Park Chan-yeong also meet two survivors, Ha-ni and Ho-sang, who have been living outside the stadium all this time. When Eun-yu tries to leave Park Chan-yeong with the two survivors, Yi-kyung’s daughter finds her and tries to hurt her.

It is then that Eun-yu finds out that the monster who has been saving her is Hyun-su, not Eun-hyeok. Hyun-su also saves Yi-kyung, who almost dies in the fire. He brings an injured Yi-kyung to Eun-yu, Park Chan-yeong, Ha-ni, and Ho-sang, as he wants them to save her.

Ho-sang does not want anything to do with monsters, so he leaves with Ha-ni. However, Ha-ni is sick of living without a purpose and friends, so she drugs Ho-sang and takes charge of choosing their next destination.

The presence of a monster is detected at the stadium. While trying to find the monster, Master Sergeant Tak realizes that he is showing symptoms of turning into one. Meanwhile, Chief Ji tries to kill Seung-wan, who is also showing symptoms.

Sweet Home season 2 ending explained in detail:

How does Yi-kyung turn into a monster?

Hyun-su, Eun-yu, and Park Chan-yeong do their best to save Yi-kyung, who is dying of carbon monoxide poisoning. They do everything in their power to get her oxygen and save her life, but they soon realize that Yi-kyung cannot be saved.

Hyun-su then goes to bring Yi-kyung’s daughter. He wants her to be with her mother in her final moments. Although Yi-kyung’s daughter had earlier told him that she does not need her mother or Hyun-su, she still goes with Hyun-su.

A dying Yi-kyung apologizes to her daughter. Yi-kyung’s daughter then turns Yi-kyung into a monster and assures Hyun-su that her mother is not going to die. She leaves her mother before her transformation is complete.

Is Yi-kyung dead or alive?

Hyun-su, Eun-yu, and Park Chan-yeong witness Yi-kyung’s painful transformation. It is too late to stop it by killing Yi-kyung, as Yi-kyung has already turned. Hyun-su tries to stop Yi-kyung from leaving, and that is when he looks into her mind.

Hyun-su can understand the desires of people who turn into monsters. Once they become monsters, they live an illusion and feel happy, but that is not the case with Yi-kyung. Even as a monster, Yi-kyung is suffering. To end Yi-kyung’s pain, Hyun-su kills her.

After Yi-kyung’s death, Park Chan-yeong returns to the stadium, whereas Eun-yu decides to stay with Hyun-su. As a grieving Hyun-su is in a lot of pain, the monster in him takes control of his body while Eun-yu is still with him.

What happens at the Bamseom Bureau?

One of the soldiers had run away to find medicine for his girlfriend. When the Crow Platoon receives a distress signal from the Bamseom Bureau, a group of soldiers go there to find their missing comrade.

Dr. Lim joins them, claiming that he wants to recover assets for his research. There, Dr. Lim comes across a giant shell and concludes that the shell is made up of monsters that are undergoing a change.

The soldiers realize that something strange is going on there. They split up to look for their fellow soldier. While some of them are locked in a room, others meet a young girl, who tells them that several people have been living there.

It is then revealed that the place is not occupied by humans but by monsters who were subjected to experiments there. By the time the soldiers discover this, it is too late to escape.

Dr. Lim meets Ui-myeong, who is in Sang-wook’s body. He tells the scientist that he is Nam Sang-won, the neohuman Dr. Lim knew as MH1. Furthermore, the shell breaks and a smiling Eun-hyeok comes out of it.
