Lee Shaw’s Hollow Earth plan in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters explained

In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Lee has long been keeping his mouth shut. However, in the eighth episode, he finally reveals how he plans to save the world.

Since parting ways with Cate, Kentaro, and May, Lee and Duvall have been working together, taking over Monarch outposts and destroying them.

They are specifically destroying the portals that exist on these outposts. They destroyed one in Alaska that had radiation readings similar to those from before G-Day.

The gamma-ray emissions coming from that site have now dropped to zero. Unfortunately, the emissions have now increased at a dozen other sites.

Monarch fears that another explosion just like that might result in another G-Day. Hence, they need to find Shaw.

Hollow Earth

Cate, Kentaro, May, and Tim eventually track Shaw down. They find him in Kazakhstan, where Shaw lost Keiko.

Shaw is willing to talk, but only with Cate, because she has looked right into Godzilla’s eyes.

The portal in Monarch’s Kazakhstan outpost

Shaw says Godzilla is not just a mindless, destructive force. He knows what he is doing. There is a world below Earth, which in MonsterVerse is referred to as Hollow Earth.

The portals Lee Shaw is destroying are the gateways to that world. Lee Shaw has been there.

Lee Shaw’s goal

What Godzilla is doing is keeping his kind in their world and humankind in theirs. Lee Shaw plans to seal off all these portals to avoid another G-Day.

Shaw doesn’t agree with Monarch’s data, which suggests gamma-ray emissions are peaking on other posts.

He thinks they are just justifying sitting on their hands. Shaw also firmly believes that he is making up for losing Keiko and honoring her and Billy’s work.

An adamant Lee proceeds to blow the outpost in Kazakhstan to close the portal there, which results in a MUTO trying to come into the human world.

In an attempt to save each other, Cate, Lee, and May fall into the portal, which might take them to Hollow Earth.
