Laurel Steele: The Naughty Nine character explained

In The Naughty Nine, Laurel Steele is Andy’s sister, who is the polar opposite of him. Madilyn Kellam plays Laurel.

Laurel is unlike Andy. She follows the rules and stays obedient, which is why she is someone who will never appear on the Naughty List. She also doesn’t like the fact that Andy gets away with all of his mischief and lies.

Laurel has tried to expose Andy. Unfortunately for her, Andy always has a trick up his sleeve. Their parents are sick of them fighting all the time and just want the two of them to get along.

Laurel’s insecurities

Though Laurel is an obedient and talented child, she has insecurities of her own. She dreams of joining the state gymnastics team, but when it comes to performing, she easily becomes underconfident by letting her rival, Bethany, get into her head.

Bethany’s words contribute to Laurel’s underperformance. Bethany, on the other hand, excels as a gymnast and doesn’t leave a chance to make Laurel feel bad.

Originally, Andy chose Bethany to be on his team that would pull off a heist in Santa’s village. Bethany backs out at the last minute, leaving Andy no option but to ask his own sister to join the team.

Andy and his team need a gymnast because the entrance to Santa’s vault is across an ice chasm. Only someone with some serious aerial skills can flip to the other side and raise the bridge for them.

Laurel lets Bethany get into her head

Andy tells Laurel that Bethany chickened out, how he told Bethany that he would go to Laurel, and how Bethany made fun of Laurel. This convinces Laurel to join Andy’s team. She only comes on board to show Bethany that she is ten times better than her.

Near Santa’s vault, Laurel hesitates to make the jump. Andy explains to Laurel that she doesn’t stick her landing because she keeps letting Bethany get into her head.

Andy says that everyone believes Laurel is good; only she needs to have that confidence. Laurel then takes the chance and successfully makes the jump across the ice chasm.

Laurel turns into a naughty kid

After successfully pulling off the heist, Andy learns that Laurel stole a phone from Santa’s vault, which she wasn’t supposed to. He realizes the grave mistake he has made; he turned a good kid into a naughty one.

This encourages him to give the presents that they have stolen back to Santa, who forgives all of Andy’s friends except for him and Laurel.

It’s only when Andy and Laurel hand the phone back and promise that they will use their skills for something nice that Santa removes their names from the Naughty List.

The adventure ends up becoming worthwhile as Andy learns an important lesson. To put a cherry on top, he and his sister, Laurel, finally start getting along.
