Lady Voyeur ending explained: Is Cleo alive?

Netflix’s Portuguese thriller-drama ‘Lady Voyeur’ follows the story of a talented hacker being drawn into a dangerous investigation after her neighbour, a sex worker, leaves for a weekend getaway.

Plot summary

‘Lady Voyeur’ follows Miranda, an unrestrained voyeur and skilled hacker. Her daily routine consists of peering through the window into the life of Cleo, an elevated prostitute who lives in the building located across the street. She takes a keen interest in the clients who visit Cleo.

Cleo knocks on Miranda’s door one day and starts asking Miranda to watch her dog whilst also she goes on a trip. The trouble starts when one of Cleo’s clients, Fernando, visits whilst Miranda is temporarily in Cleo’s apartment.

Fernando saves Miranda from a sexual assault, and the two grow close. He instantly entrusts Miranda with certain dark secrets of his life. He convinces Miranda to get introduced to his brother-in-law, Heitor.

Fernando asks Miranda to use her hacking skills and keep a stern eye on Heitor. However, on another tangent, Heitor has a messy marriage with Diana. He too is one of Cleo’s clients. Soon enough, Miranda is entangled in a web of complex relationships and lies.

Betwixt situations, Miranda is desperate to learn how and where Cleo disappeared. Through anonymous communication, Miranda receives an invitation to a ‘Play Party’ and is given instructions to follow. By the end of this, Miranda wakes up in a hog-tied state in Heitor’s apartment and stumbles upon Diana’s dead body.

Miranda is unable to trust Fernando or Heitor. She soon comprehends the inappropriate and complex relations between Heitor’s and Fernando’s families. Amidst this, Miranda’s past begins to haunt her as she goes to visit her grandmother at a nursing home every now and then.

After the murder of Zoe, Fernando’s ex-wife, Miranda gets directly involved in the now combine investigation. Her life is at risk too at this point. Miranda’s best friend, Rita too gets involved in the mess. Rita’s intimate friendship with Heitor’s bodyguard, Rafael, becomes another concern for Miranda.

After many twists and turns, it is revealed that Cleo was never in danger. Rather, Cleo was the danger – for Miranda. It is soon revealed that Miranda’s sister, Gabriella, is now Cleo. Gabriella is still a sociopath who wishes to make Miranda suffer; thus, she takes the alias of Cleo. She had chalked out an elaborate plan to make Miranda suffer.

According to Cleo, aka Gabriella, Miranda is the reason why their mother passed away. It is also revealed that Fernando was in on the evil plan with Gabriella.

On one hand, Gabriella wants to witness Miranda suffer and then die; on the other hand, Fernando wants to snatch away everything from Heitor, and then kill him. In spite of all the planning and plotting, Fernando, and Gabriella both die, while Heitor and Miranda are left to live a free life.

Is Cleo alive?

The storyline begins with Cleo’s existence and her exotic lifestyle, which Miranda peeps into through windows. It was her disappearance that brought discourse into Miranda’s life.

As the story proceeds the audience is left to believe that Cleo is held captive. However, by the end of the very last episode, it is revealed that Cleo has never been a victim. She is not only Miranda’s elder sister Gabriella but also the mastermind of this evil plan.

As she attempts to kill Miranda, a tussle takes place. The police arrive in time of a misfire which causes Cleo’s death. Thus, Cleo is no more.

Who killed Bernardo?

It is during the very first episode of ‘Lady Voyeur’ that reveals the death of Bernardo. Bernardo was Diana’s boyfriend and the brother of Helena, Heitor’s then-girlfriend. His death takes place in a swimming pool for which the initial blame was assigned to Heitor.

Apparently, Heitor had knocked out Bernardo of his consciousness. And as Bernardo fell into the pool, he drowned. When Miranda investigates, she finds out that the truth is something else.

Miranda secures a video clip which reveals that even after the physical fight between Heitor and himself, Bernardo was still alive. He did struggle to get to the side of the pool to step out. However, Diana did not let him. Diana made Bernardo suffocate in the pool, which caused his death.

It is much later revealed that it was Fernando’s influence which made Diana act in such a way. He convinced her to kill Bernardo as Bernardo came to learn about the perverted and incest relationship that Diana as well as he was involved in.

Did Diana die of suicide?

‘Lady Voyeur’ does not only focus on the disappearance of Cleo. Diana’s death has been a central point in the plot as well. From the manner of death, it could be concluded that Diana committed suicide. Her death was very similar to that of Bernardo’s. However, her death was a homicide.

When Miranda is held captive by Cleo, she learns the truth about Diana’s death. Cleo confesses that Diana’s death was never a part of the plan. Having said that, when Diana refused the love proposed by Fernando, she became a target. Out of rage, Fernando attacked and killed Diana.

Who kills Zoe?

Zoe Braun is Fernando’s ex-wife. She is someone who feeds off others’ secrets. The ‘Play Party’, which Miranda was compelled to be a part of for the sake of Cleo, was held at a mansion. This mansion is actually owned by Zoe’s parents. She too is involved in the twisted circumstances.

It is after Diana’s death that Zoe’s murder occurs. She is found shot dead in an elevator, by Miranda. All the signs were pointed at Heitor for this murder. Nevertheless, Cleo reveals that it was Fernando who killed Zoe since she was blackmailing him.

Is Heitor innocent?

‘Lady Voyeur’ revolves around a few specific characters and their past lives. Heitor is one of the central characters of this story. It is known from the first episode that his character is ‘grey’.

There are a few subplots which insisted that Heitor is a villainous character; however, he is not. He has no role to play in any of the deaths. Heitor has always been framed and wrongly perceived. It is when Miranda is finally rescued by the police that she learns of Heitor’s innocence.

What happens to Rita?

Rita is a dear friend of Miranda’s. She soon becomes intimate with Heitor’s bodyguard, Rafael. Her death is foreshadowed from the start.

It is during a New Year’s eve party that Rita is stabbed. Her death caused Rafael to track down her killer, which happens to be Paulo. Paulo is one of Cleo’s accomplices. The reason behind her death is unclear, however, it could possibly be because of her friendship with Miranda.

Is Miranda pregnant?

As the story of ‘Lady Voyeur’ comes to an end, Miranda learns that she is pregnant. It is unclear at first whether the child belongs to Heitor or Fernando. Though, Miranda still wants to keep the child.

The series concludes with Heitor accepting to be the father of Miranda’s baby. It is revealed that they are expecting a baby girl and Miranda wishes to name the child Rita, after her best friend.
