Kazuko Tozawa: Tokyo Vice character explained

Kazuko Tozawa is Shinzo’s wife and it is her family’s connections that perpetuated his rise. Makiko Watanabe plays the character.

Kazuko Tozawa is the niece of Noboru Nakahara, the chairman of the Tozawa organization. Her marriage to Shinzo was a political union rather than one based on emotion.

Shinzo used Kazuko’s family’s connection and wealth to get ahead in life, but Kazuko still maintained control over the family business.

She is aware of his extra-marital affairs and overlooks them unless they directly affect the business.

She is unappreciative of Shinzo’s tendency to overreach and has a different approach to the business compared to him.

Securing her future

As Shinzo’s power increased, he got more confident and that didn’t sit well with Kazuko. While she prefers doing things with caution, Shinzo prefers to force the issue.

During her meeting with Minister Shigematsu to decide which minister they need to influence, Shinzo interrupts and states his desires which do not coincide with hers.

She then invites Misaki for a meeting and threatens to reveal her affair with Jake to Shinzo unless she answers some important questions.

She then gives Katagiri the information he needs to take Tozawa down, the locations of his safes that contain important documents.

She sends her confidant, Hagino, to accompany Shinzo to face the rest of the Yakuza clans and then announces in front of them all that Shinzo must pay for his indiscretions.

Once the matter is resolved, Shinzo faces Jake and tells him that she was the one who sent him the tape. She will be mindful of how he fumbled that opportunity to take Shinzo down.

She did everything in her power to get him out of the way, and once the dust settled, Samantha approached her with the land development plans she got from Masahiro Ohno.

She asks if Samantha wants to go in as partners, but Samantha asks for a one-time payment of 10 million yen.

Kazuko agrees to deal as it will benefit her as well.
