Friederike’s death in The Signal (2024) explained

Friederike is a detective who investigates the plane crash and Paula and Hadi’s involvement in it before her tragic death.

Friederike (played by Meret Becker) initially pretends to have lost someone in the crash as well, just so that she can dig some information out of Sven.

When his words are used against him by the interrogators, it is revealed who she is and she is unapologetic about it.

She shows up later at his house with the recording from the cockpit of Paula sending him a message and continues to question her involvement.

Sven and Paula’s parents refuse to believe that she is responsible, despite Freiderike’s insistence that she was involved somehow.

After the recording is made public, other grieving families camp outside Sven’s house and blame him indirectly for their loss.

One of them stalks Sven and he chases after them and beats them up when he thinks that they have his daughter.

Opening up her mind

Freiderike shows up at his house to ask him about the encounter but he turns her toward more damning evidence.

He shows her the file that Rainer had left behind and tells her that she needs to look into what he was investigating and find out what happened at Rainer’s house or how he disappeared.

Her mind is blown and she decides to look into the things that Sven mentioned. When they check the security footage outside Rainer’s house, they find that a section has been blacked out.

By then, the black box of the plane is found and the recordings show that an explosion took place before Paula and Hadi went into the cockpit, absolving them of blame.

Friderike and her partner head to her house where there aren’t as many observers to look into what Rainer was checking.

He had contacted the airport in Santiago to get details about the flight so they get all the information they could and get in touch with the airport themselves.

Friederike's death in The Signal (2024) explained 1
Friederike and her partner discover who is behind the explosion on the plane

According to the records, the flight left after a 24-minute delay, but the airport claimed that it left right on time.

Friederike realizes that the one no-show on the flight would have checked in with their bags, and it would have taken around that time to remove the bag according to protocol.

However, since the plane left on time, the bag must not have been removed even if the passenger wasn’t there.

When they check the passenger records, they realize that Nora was the no-show, meaning Benisha was responsible for the explosion.

They frantically try to warn Sven and drive out to find him. Friederike is worried that they have become targets just like Rainer must have, and at that moment a truck collides with their car and kills them.
