Dora Marinho: Luz: The Light of the Heart character explained

Marcos’s friend, Dora, grows fond of Luz, unaware of their deeper connection. In Luz: The Light of the Heart, Gabriela Moreyra plays Dora.

Dora owns a bookstore near Prex. She and Marcos are good friends and understand each other the way Dora’s boyfriend, Gael, never does.

When Luz enters Marcos’ life, Dora gets to meet her. Dora forms a special bond with Luz, who turns out to be her daughter.

Dora’s painful past

Dora meets Lucas on a camping trip. It does not take long for the two of them to fall in love, and soon, Dora gets pregnant with his baby.

Lucas never told Dora about his father, Carlos, or how rich he is. Despite that, Carlos believes that Dora is only with Lucas for his money.

He asks his son to leave Dora, but Lucas is not willing to do that. Lucas is already engaged to Dora and plans to marry her soon.

After a confrontation with his father, Lucas dies in a car crash on his way to the hospital, where Dora gives birth to their daughter.

Carlos, consumed by anger and grief, blames Dora and her daughter for Lucas’ death. He orders his right-hand man to kidnap Dora’s daughter and abandon her in the forest.

The hospital tells Dora that her daughter passed away, and Dora is led to believe that she lost both her fiancé and her daughter within a few hours of each other.

This becomes the most difficult period of Dora’s life. She quits her job and leaves the city. Eventually, she ends up using all her savings to open a bookstore.

Dora’s full name is Isadora. When she met Lucas, she introduced herself as Isa. However, after his death, she stopped using that name, as it brought back painful memories.

A dream and a loved one

Dora’s store is not turning a profit and she has to keep taking loans to keep the business afloat, but she still does not want to close it.

Gael, who invests everyone’s money, keeps insisting that Dora sell the store and give him the money to invest, but Dora refuses.

It was always her dream to own a bookstore, and now that she has one, she refuses to give up on it without trying to make it work.

Gael is jealous of Dora and Marcos’ friendship, as he believes that Dora prioritizes Marcos, who has feelings for her, over him.

Marcos then introduces Luz to Dora as his cousin, and in their very first meeting, Dora earns Luz’s trust. Neither of them are aware that they are related.

Dora considers Luz special, and their bond strengthens over time. Meanwhile, Carlos begins visiting Dora’s store to keep an eye on her.

Carlos wants Dora to move away, so he offers to buy her store. When she refuses to sell, he pays Gael to set fire to it.

After losing her store, when Dora decides to leave the city, Luz gifts her a picture drawn by her classmate, depicting how Luz imagines her mother to look.

The woman in the picture looks just like Dora, and she is wearing the firefly necklace that Luz’s father gifted her mother.

This leads to Dora telling Marcos her story and showing him her necklace. Marcos figures out that Dora is Luz’s mother and tells Dora everything.

Dora discovers that her daughter is alive, and it is none other than Luz. Following their reunion, Luz takes her mother to live with her family, the Kaingang community.

Additionally, Dora not only starts dating Marcos but also reopens her bookstore, refusing to give up on her dream.
