Arthur “Spoon” Spindell: Harlan Coben’s Shelter character explained

Arthur “Spoon” Spindell is a fellow schoolmate of Mickey who is very enthusiastic and becomes friends with Mickey early on. The character is played by Adrian Greensmith.

Arthur Spindell welcomes Mickey on his first day of school and gives him a rundown of the popular students and the customs of the school as well as the things to watch out for. One other thing he mentions is that his father is the head janitor of the school.

When Arthur is being bullied by Troy and Buck, Mickey stands up for him and then gives him the nickname “Spoon” after seeing one sticking out of his pocket. Arthur reveals it to be a dual-purpose spoon and fork, and says that it’s for practical purposes and self-defense.

Mickey is responsible for the “Spoon” nickname

He has a good rapport with Ema as well and they tag along when Mickey decides to sneak into Bat Lady’s house.

A lovable goof

Spoon proves to be a loyal and highly resourceful friend to the group. He gets arrested with Mickey when they rush to the Kents’ house and then shows them the Spindell spot, an abandoned boiler room that they can use as a base.

He also can hack into the school security feed and download hours worth of footage that they can go over to see if there are clues to Ashley’s disappearance.

When Angelica Wyatt is announced as the celebrity sponsor for the musical, Spoon shows so much excitement and says that he’s going to audition for the part because he’s a huge fan of hers.
