The Randa family tree in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters explained

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters spans decades and follows three generations of the Randa family, who have all faced titans.

Cryptozoologist and American Navy vet William ‘Billy’ Randa and Japanese scientist Keiko Miura, along with military officer Lieutenant Lee Shaw, began working in Monarch to study MUTOs in the 1950s.

In the future, Keiko and Billy’s son, Hiroshi Randa, follows their work, and later, Hiroshi’s children from his two different marriages, Cate and Kentaro, get involved with Monarch too.

The following is a complete breakdown of people who are part of the Randa family tree:

Keiko, Billy, and Hiroshi

Keiko Miura and Bill Randa cross paths in a forest in the Philippines. They team up upon finding out that they are chasing the same radiation, which leads them to USS Lawton and a titan.

The belief shown in him by Keiko that day made Billy fall for Keiko. However, he didn’t confess his love for her back then. Keiko and Lee were together for a while.

Keiko introduces a young Hiroshi to Billy

In the eighth episode, when Billy meets Keiko’s son, Hiroshi, he hears Keiko’s concerns as a single mother and how she wants Hiroshi to have all the opportunities.

He assures her that she won’t have to raise Hiroshi alone. He and Monarch will help her. Hence, it can be said that Billy and Keiko get married, as Hiroshi picks up the name Randa.

While Keiko falls into a Hollow Earth entrance in 1959 and spends time surviving in Hollow Earth, Billy meets his end during an expedition on Skull Island in 1973.

Cate’s family: Hiroshi, Caroline, and Cate

Hiroshi grows up to follow in the footsteps of Billy and Keiko. However, his dedication to his work doesn’t allow him to make time for his family in San Francisco.

Hiroshi is married to a woman named Caroline, and together they have a daughter named Cate.

Cate and Caroline, along with the people of San Francisco, face Godzilla in 2014. Hiroshi is absent at a time like this.

He does visit them five days after G-Day to ensure they are doing alright, but he won’t stay after handing them passes to leave the zone.

Cate grows to hate her father. About a week later, they are informed about the plane Hiroshi was on. It disappeared in a storm, and the wreckage was never found.

Kentaro’s family: Hiroshi, Emiko, and Kentaro

When Cate goes to Tokyo, Japan, to settle her father’s affairs, she is met with a surprise. Hiroshi has another family in Japan with a woman named Emiko.

Hiroshi and Emiko also have a son named Kentaro. Unlike Cate, Kentaro initially defended his father.

Much like how Cate didn’t know about them, they didn’t know about Hiroshi’s family in San Francisco either.

Introducing her to Hiroshi’s workplace in Japan results in them discovering Bill Randa’s files, which gets them involved in Monarch’s business.

Together, they find Lee and go looking for answers about their own family’s past.
