Michael: Supacell character explained

Michael’s life turns upside down when he suddenly develops superpowers. In Supacell, Tosin Cole plays Michael.

Michael is a delivery man in London. He lives a content life with his girlfriend, Dionne, whom he has been dating since they were in school.

Now that Dionne and Michael are more settled, Michael plans to propose to Dionne. However, his happy life is disrupted when he develops superpowers.

Michael’s powers

Michael’s mother has sickle cell disease, but Michael is fortunate not to have even the trait. Instead, Michael has the supacell, a mutation of sickle cell.

His supacell activates when he comes into contact with others who have it, and Michael develops abilities like teleportation, time traveling, and manipulating time.

When Michael is attacked by Tazer’s gang, he fights back to defend himself, which leads to Tazer stabbing him in the heart.

This is the first time Michael unintentionally uses his powers to reverse time. He relives the last few minutes, and knowing what will happen, he is able to prevent Tazer from stabbing him.

As planned, Michael gets engaged to Dionne that day, but he remains in disbelief and confusion about what he experienced. His confusion intensifies when he accidentally time-travels to the future later that night.

There, he sees himself fighting men in hoods alongside four other people. His future self informs him that Dionne will die in the next three months.

The only way to save her is to find the four people he saw with his future self before the men in hoods find them. If one of the four dies, Dionne will also die.

Michael’s futile efforts

When Michael returns to the present, he can no longer doubt his powers, as Dionne witnessed him disappear after his eyes turned yellow.

Michael tells Dionne everything but omits her impending death. Dionne hopes that his powers will go away, but Michael cannot let the matter rest, knowing that she is going to die.

Michael starts looking for the four people his future self told him about, even though he promised Dionne, who wants him to stay away from danger, that he would not.

He manages to find all except Andre, but none of them are willing to join forces with him. At the same time, Michael’s constant lies strain his relationship with Dionne.

As Michael does not explain himself, Dionne begins investigating his powers on her own, which leads her to the Ashington Estate.

Eventually, Michael tells Dionne about her death and promises to save her. Now that she knows everything, she accompanies him and his companions to the estate.

There, Michael fights the men in hoods with his team and even convinces Andre to join them. Michael finally succeeds in assembling the team as his future self had advised.

While fighting the men in hoods, Krazy kills Michael’s team and Dionne, but Michael reverses time again and stabs Krazy before he can attack any of them.

However, Michael fails to save Dionne, who is killed by Krazy, and realizes that all his efforts to assemble the team were for nothing.

Michael accepts that he has lost Dionne and will never get her back, but he resolves to avenge her death.

Michael gathers his team in his friend’s bar and travels to the future to gather more information about their enemies, intending to get revenge when he returns.
