Lee Gang-Hyun is an excellent detective leading the Violent Crime Investigation Team 1 at the Gangha Police Station, who has been constantly derided and taunted for her father’s controversial past.
The latest episodes of Flex X Cop see Lee Gang-Hyun risking her life to get her father justice by solving the case he was trying to when he was framed for taking bribes.
Framing of Lee Hyung-Jun
Lee Hyung-Jun was investigating the Oryun Community, a cult led by Shin Woo-Hyuk, and was addressing the media regarding the investigations when Sung-Gu and others interrupted it and arrested him.
Lee Hyung-Jun was presented with the box full of cash that a strange man had previously left at his doorstep. His wife had taken the box inside and hadn’t yet looked inside it.
A police team promptly showed up at his house with a warrant and seized what seemed to be pretty damning evidence of bribery.
As a result, Lee Hyung-Jun had to resign and ever since then he’s been living inside his house doing calligraphy and tending to his plants.
Lee Gang-Hyun’s goal
His daughter, now a leader of the Violent Crime Investigation Team 1, is desperate to prove the allegations against her father are lies and that he was framed.
One day, that opportunity presents itself when Lee Seong-Wook, the co-founder of Oryun Community, calls her. He tells her he’ll tell her everything she needs to know.
However, he can’t do anything because he’s killed by Shin Woo-Hyuk’s men before it.
It appears to be suicide, similar to how most of the deaths of the Oryun Community members have been made to look like over the years.
Meanwhile, another dead body, also belonging to a cult member, is found near a river. The autopsy reveals he didn’t die due to drowning in the river but elsewhere.
Lee Gang-Hyun knows there’s foul play and wants to investigate further, but she’s stopped from doing so by Chief Sung-Gu.
She’s sent on a break by him and she decides to make full use of it.
She infiltrates Oryun Community as one of their new recruits, and Jin I-Soo visits there as a cop and soon, pretends to have been affected by Bori, the name Woo-Hyuk uses as the cult leader.
But the two of them get caught and beaten up by Bori’s men. Meanwhile, Violent Crime Investigation Team 1 and 2 work together to investigate Lee Seong-Wook’s death.
The truth
They get his wife’s permission to perform the autopsy, as well as find out that Shin Woo-Hyuk never got a pipe through him in an accident, or recovered from it ever to start spreading his rebirth theory.
It was some other man who he actually killed in the accident, while Seong-Wook was with him.
He used this accident as his story of miraculous rebirth, which he sold to vulnerable people to lure to his cult.
He created the cult along with Seong-Wook and employed the experience and knowledge they had working together for a pyramid scheme-selling company before.
He would poison the lonely, rich people who are living their last years, and fool them into believing in rebirth while hogging up all their fortunes.
Seong-Wook eventually defected from this immoral business and also found out that Shin Woo-Hyuk plans to get out of the country with all the money.
He’s killed before he can meet Lee Gang-Hyun. However, he leaves behind a flash drive for the detectives, which is retrieved after his autopsy.
Justice is served
Chan-Gun looks at the content inside and apart from the proof of Woo-Hyuk’s accounts, there are also videos of Seong-Wook confessing his crimes and one that he secretly recorded of Chief Sung-Gu taking bribes from Bori.
Sung-Gu took those bribes in exchange for stopping the investigations, which he achieved by framing Lee Hyung-Jun.
In the present day, Chan-Gun mobilizes all units and the SWAT to the Oryun Community headquarters to help rescue Gang-Hyun and I-Soo, as well as arrest Woo-Hyuk aka Bori.
The cult leader is arrested; Jin I-Soo and Lee Gang-Hyun are saved; and Sung-Gu is arrested. The commissioner, on the suggestion of Chang-Gun, appoints Lee Hyung-Jun as the superintendent.
