Julia Navarro: True Detective: Night Country character explained

In True Detective: Night Country, Julia is the sister of Navarro. Aka Niviâna plays Julia.

Julia, also called Jules by Navarro, works at Qavvik’s restaurant. The two sisters are very close.

In the series, Julia suffers from freakouts from time to time, requiring Navarro to come to visit her to calm her down.

Julia and Navarro’s mother

Julia and Navarro’s mother was from Ennis. She left when she was 15 and married a man in Boston.

Julia and Navarro grew up with an abusive father who used to drink and beat their mother and them too, which prompted their mother to run away with her daughters and come back to the North.

Their mom was not fine though. She used to hear voices and have episodes. One day, she ran off and never came back. Their mother was killed, and the murderer was never found.

Navarro comforts Julia

Julia is afraid of being compared to their mother. It’s Navarro who assures her that she is nothing like their mother.

Julia’s health

After hearing about spirits from Rose, Navarro shares the condition of her sister Julia with Rose. Julia sees people following her. She can’t sleep and suffers from breakdowns.

Julia claims that her dead mother is calling her. Navarro brought Julia to Ennis to keep her close, but right now, Navarro needs help.

Rose advises Navarro not to confuse the spirit world with mental health issues. Rose thinks Julia needs mental health help.

However, Julia no longer wants any of that. She has been to a place in Nevada four years ago, where she was heavily medicated.

Later in the show, Navarro attempts to convince Julia to go to the Lighthouse, a community center in the town.

Julia never agrees to it. Her episodes continue, but Navarro manages to find her and comfort her.

Julia’s death

Julia eventually agrees to go to a local facility. However, her visions prompt her to leave the place and walk into the sea to meet her end.

Julia’s death impacts Navarro, who comes to believe that they are cursed. Their mother also used to have visions, Julia experienced them, and even Navarro has them.
