The penultimate episode of Flex X Cop sees Jin Myeong-Chul pass away due to a suicide. However, dark deeds and sinister secrets within the family are behind the death of the patriarch.
Seung-Ju is Cho Hee-Ja’s son from her lover before her marriage to Myeong-Chul. She and Seung-Ju were accepted into the family by Myeong-Chul at that time, but he had no love for her.
She would often behave in unseemly ways and cause problems for Myeong-Chul, for which she also got reprimanded. An already embittered Hee-Ja was made worse after the arrival of Jin I-Soo, Myeong-Chul’s biological son.
Seung-Ju’s true colors
She wanted everything for her son, and her son only. She raised Seung-Ju with constant reminders and orders to lead the Hansu Group one day, to inherit it all for himself.
Her undying and unrelenting desire to inherit Hansu Group’s wealth through Seung-Ju was internalized by him. Seung-Ju only really cared about two things. The first was to protect his mom.
The second one was to become the next leader of the Hansu Group. He became unhinged and obsessed with meeting these objectives.
So when Myeong-Chul told him that he was practically disowning him and his mother and the two would soon face legal repercussions as well, Seung-Ju resorts to the extreme to ensure he gets the helm of the conglomerate and inherits the empire.
Jin Myeong-Chul’s murder
Jin Seung-Ju sneaks out of the house early in the morning, taking the sleeping pills that his mom uses with him. His mom manages to see him get out of the house when she goes to take some sleeping pills and finds the bottle empty.
Seung-Ju visits Jin Myeong-Chul, who is spending time in a relatively isolated villa of his. He confined himself to that villa after the controversy related to the death of Hee-Ja’s ex-lover on their house’s premises.
Seung-Ju apologizes to him for his involvement in the case but Myeong-Chul tells him he and his mother should confess to their crimes immediately. He also says he regrets ever bringing the two of them into his family.
As he walks away, Jin Seung-Ju spikes his drink with the sleeping pills he had brought with him. Myeong-Chul returned to the hall after Seung-Ju had left and consumed the spiked drunk, dying as a result of it shortly.
