Monarch: Legacy of Monsters reveals that humans found a way to travel to Hollow Earth long before Apex Cybernetics did in Godzilla vs. Kong (2021).
In 1962, Monarch launches Operation Hourglass in hopes of traveling to Hollow Earth and exploring the ecosystem that possibly resides beneath them.
MonsterVerse has mentioned that traveling to Hollow Earth is not an easy feat, as one has to travel through a portal too unstable for humans; only a titan can travel through it.
In Godzilla vs. Kong, Dr. Nathan Lind explains that when humans enter Hollow Earth, they get hit by gravitational inversion. The whole planet’s gravity is reversed in a split second.
Apex finds a solution for this by creating a craft called the HEAV, or Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicle, which can sustain such an inversion.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, on the other hand, discloses that no such vehicle is required to travel to Hollow Earth. All they need is a titan.
The method used in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
As part of Operation Hourglass, Lee enters Hollow Earth with a team. General Puckett explains how they found a way to enter the hidden world of titans.
Basically, the unstable rift acts as a bridge between Hollow Earth and Earth. It stabilizes when a titan passes through it.
Monarch finds a portal to Hollow Earth in Kansas, and using Dr. Suzuki’s gamma radiation simulator, they lure a titan towards them.
Once the titan is halfway through the bridge, they turn the simulator off. While the rift is stable with the titan in it, Lee and his team are dropped into the portal.
This way, Lee’s team successfully enters Hollow Earth. Unfortunately, Monarch’s camp on the surface of the earth faces destruction, loses contact with Lee’s team, and comes to believe that Lee and his teammates are dead.
Following Operation Hourglass, Monarch stops receiving funding. However, it is confirmed that with the help of a titan, one can pass through a rift without any vehicle and enter the Hollow Earth.
In the eighth episode, Cate, May, and Lee fall into the rift in Kazakhstan while a titan is trying to enter the human world through it.
In the ninth episode, it is revealed that they have landed on the surface of Hollow Earth.
