Ethians in My Lady Jane explained

The Ethians are people who can change between animal and human forms. They are ostracized by regular humans known as Verity.

Ethians have existed for decades and do not have a choice in what animal they can turn into.

Ethianism sometimes skips generations and most commonly emerges during puberty when the person is going through a moment of high emotion.

As with most societies that do not understand a certain phenomenon, the Verity considered the Ethians the spawn of satan and shunned them.

Ethians were tortured and beaten just because they were different and finally, King Henry passed the division laws that forced the Ethians into the woods.

They lost all of their rights are regular humans and they would have to fend for themselves in the wilderness.

Fighting for change

King Edward went along with many of the division laws because he never had the chance to experience the outside world and see what it was like for the Ethians.

Similarly, people like Jane who grew up in nobility had their preconceived notions about Ethians regardless of how well educated they were.

Jane discovers that Susannah is an Ethian and takes an interest in learning about them. She gets the opportunity when she finds out that Guildford is an Ethian.

Unlike all other Ethians, he cannot control his transformations and he hopes that Jane can find a cure for him.

Edward is saved from Mary’s wrath and taken to meet his grandmother who is also an Ethian.

She had Edward kidnapped and wants to bring out his Ethanism before returning him to the throne as the first Ethian king.

However, her goal is to rid the country of Verity which is too radical for Edward’s tastes. Jane does much research but cannot find a cure for Guildford’s Ethianism.

She tries to suggest that there might be a psychological reason for his specific issue and that maybe he should look to control his transformations instead of getting rid of them.

When Jane is on the throne, she decides to make a change once and for all and announces that she will be abolishing division laws.

Princess Mary has the opposite idea because she has an intense hatred for Ethians after her mother was tossed aside by the king for an Ethian woman.

A group of Ethians known as ‘The Pack’ lead a resistance against the Verity and they are led by Archer, a man who can turn into a bear.

Susannah is also part of the resistance and with her help, Jane comes up with the plan to invite the Ethians to her coronation banquet.

Jane is deposed from the throne and Mary considers an alliance with the King of Spain who has wiped out the Ethians from his country.

Edward finds his way to the base of the Pack and discovers how Ethians are living. He convinces Susannah and some of them to help Jane escape.

The future of Ethians in England is in jeopardy because Mary is still on the throne but people like Edward and Jane are ready to fight for their rights.
