Chu Mi-suk is a police officer from Seoul who comes to Geosan regarding a murder investigation. In Like Flowers in Sand, Seo Jeong-yeon plays Mi-suk.
When Baek-du comes across Chu Mi-suk in his hometown, he recognizes her but cannot recall how he knows her.
He then overhears her talking to Du-sik and her colleague, who is posing as Du-sik’s husband, and assumes that she is Du-sik’s mother-in-law.
Soon after, Baek-du recognizes her. It is Mi-suk’s arrival that enables him to see right through Du-sik’s cover.
The detective from Seoul
When Du-sik and Baek-du were children, Du-sik’s hero was a woman named Chu Mi-suk, a police detective.
Baek-du remembers watching a show with Du-sik that featured Chu Mi-suk, and that is why he instinctively knew her. He still has that show recorded.
Chu Mi-suk is now a captain and Du-sik’s superior. She has sent Du-sik and Hyeon-uk to Geosan to investigate the death of a match-fixer, Choi Chil-seong.
Chu Mi-suk has been trying to catch Choi Chil-seong for quite some time now. His death leaves her with a number of questions.
Du-sik believes that by living amongst the townspeople, they will be able to discover why Choi Chil-seong came to Geosan before his death.
Chu Mi-suk is well aware that Du-sik’s plan is reckless, but she still allows her to proceed with it, even though Hyeon-uk opposes it.
This makes Hyeon-uk, who does not want to keep their investigation confidential, suspect that the two women are keeping something from him.
However, Chu Mi-suk is not going to wait for long. She expects Du-sik and Hyeon-uk to find Choi Chil-seong’s ledger or the murder suspect soon.
If they fail to get her the information that she needs, she will call them back to Seoul. She also wants them to get along in front of the townspeople to maintain their cover.
Du-sik’s cover is jeopardized
When Chu Mi-suk’s team finds out that Choi Chil-seon had a scuffle with Baek-du, she comes to Geosan and is forced to take the help of the local police to identify Baek-du.
Chu Mi-suk knows the local police chief quite well, as she had saved his life in the past. She has no choice but to tell him about her investigation because the local police have helped her team.
The lead turns out to be ineffective, and Chu Mi-suk decides to return to Seoul, leaving the investigation to her juniors.
However, before she leaves for Seoul, Hyeon-uk warns her that there is something going on between Baek-du and Du-sik and that Baek-du might see through their cover.
He is not wrong. As soon as Baek-du recognizes Chu Mi-suk, he figures out that Du-sik is a police officer and that she is not married.
