Choi Tae-seong: The Bequeathed character explained

To make Young-ho give up his claim on the family burial ground, Seo-ha employs a mobster named Choi Tae-seong. In The Bequeathed, Yu Seung-mok plays Choi Tae-seong.

Seo-ha had hired a private detective, Kang Hong-sik, to follow her husband and find out whether he was cheating on her.

Later, after her husband’s death, she hires Kang again to look into Young-ho, whom she suspects of killing her husband.

This time, Kang introduces her to his friend, Choi Tae-seong, who might be able to help Seo-ha.

Choi Tae-seong’s urgent need for money

Choi Tae-seong is a man who is involved in several illegal activities. He owns a building that he needs to sell as soon as possible.

If he fails to sell his building, it’ll go up for auction, and Tae-seong cannot afford that. His daughter is marrying into a wealthy family.

Tae-seong wants to create the impression for her in-laws that his family is equally sophisticated, and to achieve that, he needs money.

Kang is helping Tae-seong search for potential buyers. When he hears that Seo-ha has inherited the burial land, he decides to approach her.

Tae-seong and Kang are aware that Seo-ha is going through a tough time. She has just lost her husband and fears that she will be the next target of her husband’s killer.

Tae-seong and Kang plan to take advantage of Seo-ha’s circumstances. Kang convinces her to meet Tae-seong, who exaggerates the building’s value and its prime location.

He then asks Seo-ha for three billion won, hoping to sell the building to her for more than its actual worth. He counts on the assumption that Seo-ha might not inquire about the market rates.

As Seo-ha does not have that much money, he suggests that she sell the land she has inherited and take a loan, knowing that she is a salaried academic.

Ally becomes adversary

Tae-seong assures Seo-ha that he will help her get rid of anything or anyone standing in the way of her inheritance.

Seo-ha takes Tae-seong up on his offer when Kang is killed and the police fail to gather enough evidence against Young-ho to keep him in custody.

Tae-seong gets Young-ho kidnapped and forces him to withdraw his claim over the land. However, Tae-seong’s plan fails.

Young-ho refuses to sign the papers, and while escaping Tae-seong’s henchmen, he ends up seeing Tae-seong’s face. To protect himself, Tae-seong decides to kill Seo-ha.

He informs Seo-ha of his new plan but does not listen to her when she tries to stop him. When Seo-ha threatens to go to the police, Tae-seong makes up his mind to kill her as well.

Tae-seong almost manages to kill Seo-ha and Young-ho, but the siblings make it out alive with Myung-hee’s help.

The police arrive at the scene, and despite shooting Park Sang-min, Tae-seong fails to escape and is arrested.

While charges against Seo-ha are dropped because of Young-ho, Tae-seong and his men face trial for their crimes.
