At Ndu’s funeral, Phila meets a woman named Charlie who immediately stands out to him. She is the only one who seems to care about Phila’s feelings.
With Phila feeling sad and alone after his brother’s death, Charlie provides him with comfort when he needs it the most and does not get any from his family.
Phila then keeps meeting and confiding in her, unaware that Charlie approached him not to comfort him but because she had an ulterior motive.
The impact of losing her mother
When Charlie was young, her mother, Debbie, was taken away right before her eyes. Her mother had been investigating Bhengu Beauty’s illegal skin-bleaching practices.
Debbie was going to expose those illegal practices, so Don and Grace sent goons to intimidate her, but the situation escalated, and Debbie was killed.
Charlie then left the country to escape her pain, and her father let her go despite knowing that she was not handling her mother’s death well.
Even after moving to London, Charlie’s life did not improve. She faced accusations of sexual misconduct, harassment, and intimidation.
Years after her mother’s death, Charlie learns from her father that the Bhengus were behind it and decides to return home.
Although she received no emotional support from her father after her mother’s death, she is determined to join him in seeking revenge.
Charlie betrays Phila and Linda
As Charlie grows close to Phila, she encourages him to be independent of his parents and not let them use him in their power struggle.
Meanwhile, Richard, Charlie’s father, becomes a mentor to Phila without revealing his and Charlie’s relationship.
Phila, who is already frustrated with his parents, is influenced by them to buy company shares with Richard’s help and become the CEO.
Once Charlie succeeds in turning Phila against his parents, she targets Linda, who is struggling to find a job.
Charlie makes Linda her business partner and starts sleeping with her to use her against her family. She convinces Linda to poach talent from Bhengu Beauty.
Linda asks Phila, who was fired by his parents for trying to take over the company, to join their startup, and Charlie fears that her lies will be exposed.
As Charlie had feared, Phila, who has fallen in love with her, discovers that Charlie is also sleeping with Linda and that she is Richard’s daughter.
While Phila leaves Charlie, he fails to convince Linda to do the same, as Charlie manipulates her with more lies.
Eventually, even Linda realizes Charlie has been using her and quits working with her. Additionally, Phila lands a blow to Charlie’s startup before she can do more harm to Bhengu Beauty.
Phila and Linda then confront Charlie and Richard about targeting them, which leads to Richard discovering that Charlie slept with both Linda and Phila despite his objections.
As Richard argues with Charlie, he realizes that his daughter has not been fine since Debbie’s death and decides to make her stay with him.
With Richard hesitating to expose Grace and Don, Charlie’s plans for revenge are foiled. However, her mother still gets justice as Phila exposes his parents’ role in her murder.
