Takemichi and Hinata’s breakup in Tokyo Revengers season 2 explained

In the recent episode of the second season of Tokyo Revengers, Takemichi breaks up with Hinata despite being in love with her. The episode is now streaming on Hulu.

Takemichi’s main purpose for traveling back in time was to prevent the death of his middle school girlfriend, Hinata. However, Hinata still dies in the timeline that is shown at the beginning of the second season.

Takemichi learns that this time, he is the one who is responsible for her death, and the knowledge devastates him.

At Naoto’s insistence, he goes back to the past to save Hinata and ends up making some very difficult choices, including breaking up with her, to accomplish his mission.

How is Kisaki related to Hinata and Takemichi?

While Takemichi is responsible for Hinata’s death in this timeline, he did not do it intentionally. He was not aware that the girl Kisaki had asked him to get killed was Hinata.

Naoto believes that there is a connection between Takemichi, Kisaki, and Hinata, as no matter how many times Takemichi goes back, Kisaki somehow succeeds in getting Hinata killed.

In the fifth episode of the second season, Takemichi finds out that Hinata already knows Kisaki. Hinata went to cram school with him when she was in elementary school. The two lived close by, so they walked home together sometimes.

Hinata tells him that Kisaki was the smartest student there. Hinata’s friend warned her that extremely smart students like Kisaki are cold-hearted, but she believed that he was a good person.

She tells the same to Takemichi. She thinks that he would get along with Kisaki because Kisaki is awkward and blunt, but he has a good heart, something that Takemichi cannot fathom. Since Kisaki went to a private middle school, Hinata never saw him again.

Hinata fell in love with Takemichi the first time she met him, and Kisaki was with her that day. She tried to save a cat from a group of boys who were torturing it, which caused her to become their target.

Takemichi came to her rescue, dressed like a hero. He stood up to those boys despite his fear. It did not end well, as Takemichi was beaten up by them.

Takemichi has no recollection of that day, but he now knows that Naoto was right and that Kisaki and Hinata have a history together.

Why does Takemichi break up with Hinata?

Takemichi remembers that in the future, Hinata told him about how he broke up with her in Umishita Park on Christmas eve. As that day is only a week away, Takemichi cannot think of a single reason for breaking up with her until he meets her father.

Masato Tachibana, Hinata’s father, is grateful to Takemichi for influencing Naoto, but he wants Takemichi to end his relationship with his daughter because he wants Hinata to be happy.

He points out that Takemichi is a hoodlum, and he cannot promise that Hinata will not be dragged into his business. Takemichi realizes that he is not wrong and makes up his mind to break up with Hinata.

Takemichi lies to her about not liking her anymore, even though he loves her, and ends their relationship in Umishita Park on Christmas eve. A heartbroken Hinata hits him several times before leaving him in tears.

Takemichi is just as much affected by their breakup, but he tells himself this is for the best, as there might be a connection between him, Hinata, and Kisaki; he needs to do this to protect her.

When Kisaki was about to kill Takemichi in the future, he called him his hero. This episode revealed that the first time Hinata and Kisaki met Takemichi, he was wearing a cape and he called himself a hero.

Furthermore, when Hinata steps forward to stop the boys from torturing the cat, Kisaki warns her not to do it because he thinks it will not work. He hides and watches her get bullied by the boys without offering his help.

However, while telling her story, Hinata admits to Takemichi that according to her, the fact that he came to help her, even though he knew he would lose, is better than winning.

It is certain that something happened between the three of them that made Kisaki kill Hinata, but what exactly happened will be revealed in the upcoming episodes. For now, Takemichi believed that sacrificing his love is the best way to save Hinata.
