Bosco Champion: Champion character explained

In Champion, Bosco Champion is the male lead of the show, a rapper looking forward to a career comeback. Malcolm Kamulete plays Bosco.

In the series, Bosco is making a comeback after spending two years in prison. The return isn’t easy, as he is haunted by the memories of jail.

Bosco’s sister, Vita, is the one who calms him down and gets him going, but when he doesn’t acknowledge her contributions to his career, she decides to quit working with him and pursue a career of her own.

Thus, the sibling rivarly, around which the series is centered, begins. Though both Bosco and Vita face challenges of their own, it is Bosco who finds himself in deeper waters.

Bosco’s downfall

Without Vita, Bosco struggles to deliver even one decent single. Vita used to write songs for Bosco without getting credit, and his job was only performing.

Bosco further faces the pressure put on him by his father, Beres, who wants Bosco to work harder and not ruin their family name.

The pressure of delivering hit songs, an upcoming tour, and living up to his family’s name get to Bosco at a time when he has clearly not recovered from the experience of spending time in jail.

What’s worse is that Bosco keeps facing the threat of getting arrested. Sometimes it’s because of debt, and other times it’s because of his own mistakes.

Bosco starts feeling that the whole world is against him

It’s his father and his label protecting him, but only because of their interests and not because they care for Bosco.

Some of the characters in the show notice that Bosco needs help, but Beres doesn’t listen to them, as he only cares about the name Champion being celebrated.

Beres manipulates Bosco. He makes his son sign a contract with him for their family enterprise called Champion Crown.

However, Bosco is not a partner in that company. It will be a subsidiary of Bosco’s old label. Beres will own all of Bosco’s music and will control it.

Bosco doesn’t know any of this. He signs without reading his contract, believing that his father is looking after his well-being.

He only learns about this when his manager, Dawn, tells him about it.

Bosco’s big comeback and arrest

Although Vita is far more skilled than Bosco, it is not like Bosco isn’t talented at all. During a rap battle with his rival, Bulla, Bosco is able to give a tough competition.

After learning the truth about Champion Crown and that his daughter is moving far away from him, Bosco sees his world falling apart.

Bosco goes missing for a while, losing touch with everyone. He returns and makes his presence felt with an independent single that takes the world by storm. In the song, Bosco also berates his father.

Bosco’s comeback is a big problem for Beres and his label. They can’t capitalize on Bosco’s song, even though Bosco is their artist, and Bosco has even called them out.

To protect their image and label, Beres decides to finally accept that his son needs help when Bosco has actually recovered.

They had been hunting Bosco down. They grab the chance to arrest him when he shows up to support his sister at an award function.

By sending Bosco to rehabilitation, Beres and his label can reconstruct their image and explain that Bosco was not in his right senses when he made his latest song criticizing his father.
