Beverly Evans: Good Times (2024) character explained

In Good Times (2024), Beverly Evans is the wife of Reggie and co-head of the Evans family. Yvette Nicole Brown voices Beverly.

At the start of the series, Beverly aims to restore the glory of the Evans by winning the housing project’s annual beautification contest.

They are the only Evans who haven’t won this contest. However, Delphine, who is going to judge the contest, stands in Beverly’s way.

This time around, not just the beauty of the apartment will be judged, but also the family. Considering that her family is far from perfect, Beverly knows it’s going to be hard.

However, after saving Dalvin with her family, Beverly realizes that they don’t need a contest to tell them that they are just as good as the Evans of the old; they are the Evans of the new.

Changing the system

The problems that the residents of her building face daily make Beverly realize that the system needs to change; Delphine is not doing her job right.

Beverly blasts Delphine during the tenant’s meeting. When Beverly fails to get the problems solved at the tenant’s meeting, she decides to fix the system from the inside by running for the president of projects against Delphine.

Beverly Good Times (2024)
Beverly promises the tenants of her building a change

Beverly gives Delphine a tough fight, promising a change to the tenants. Even though Beverly fails yet again, Dalvin, to whom his mother is dear, gets rid of Delphine, making Beverly the president of projects.

As the president of projects, Beverly is successful. She brings peace to her violent neighborhood. At the same time, she attracts the attention of the system that plans to use Beverly’s influence.

Losing sight and coming back to her senses

Allison Whitemen, who represents the system, decides to use Beverly to convince the residents of her building to empty the place, promising Beverly that she will be renovating it and breathing new life into her neighborhood.

The truth is, while the residents will be moving out for a while, they will not be welcomed back into their homes. The original residents won’t be able to afford their homes. They will be sold to rich white men instead.

Beverly is manipulated into believing that Allison Whitemen is doing the right thing. The project, Bev Gardens, gets Beverly absorbed so much that she becomes oblivious to everything else happening around her.

Grey resolves to bring her mother back to her senses. During Beverly’s speech for Bev Gardens, Grey shows a video of how the system is using Beverly and making false promises.

Beverly is shown a speech of hers from the past. Beverly would have never let Allison Whitemen convince her to turn her back on her residents just to have a building in her name.

Beverly realizes her mistake. She gets back on the stage, promises everyone that they are not going anywhere, and smashes the model of Bev Gardens, bidding the project goodbye.
