Alexandra: Maestro in Blue character explained

In Maestro in Blue, Alexandra, Orestis’ wife, shows up on the island of Paxos, surprising everyone who didn’t know about his past.

In 1995, Orestis meets Alexandra while playing piano at a party. They both glance at each other, and later Alexandra asks him out right away. They spend time with each other and sleep together in a luxurious hotel.

Unlike Orestis, Alexandra comes from an affluent family. They are in the shipping business. She works as an oil broker in her own firm. She calls it a boring job, but she likes it because it is easy, she gets to travel the whole world, and it makes her a lot of money.

Orestis calls himself the exact opposite of hers: an artist who doesn’t know if he makes enough and couldn’t afford to travel the whole world.

Alexandra and Orestis’ marriage

Alexandra introduces Orestis to her family once they get serious about their relationship. Amidst the affluent family and friends of Alexandra, Orestis feels lost.

Alexandra’s father instigates a conversation with Orestis, and they talk about how the world works. However, Alexandra’s father’s words clearly suggest that he is not sure about this relationship, owing to the fact that Orestis is an artist.

Orestis himself sees signs that Alexandra might not be right for him when she asks him to sign a prenuptial agreement before marrying.

Alexandra and Orestis’ relationship after marriage

Moving on, Alexandra starts shaping Orestis’ life the way she wants; she tells him what to wear and when.

Orestis fails to fit in with Alexandra’s friends, Andreas and Lisa. They are rich snobs who talk about materialistic things all the time and don’t respect people working below them.

Andreas once insults a jazz musician playing at a restaurant and calls the music genre monotonous. When he is reminded that Orestis is a musician too, Andreas further demeans the profession by asking whether Orestis is still pursuing that hobby.

Alexandra does defend Orestis, and when she says that he will soon be joining their business, Andreas remarks that there will be a better future for Orestis there.

Back at home, when Orestis mentions how rude Andreas is, Alexandra claims that they should love Andreas because he has the widest network of Alexandra’s clients and is friends with half of the government.

Alexandra dismisses Orestis’ requests to never have dinner with Andreas again. He still moves on and focuses on everything he has learned from Alexandra and Andreas.

Why do Alexandra and Orestis fail to conceive a baby?

At Alexandra’s father’s request, Orestis attempts to have a baby with Alexandra, who, according to her father, is always busy with her job. Alexandra’s father believes Orestis will understand it.

After getting pregnant, Alexandra books an ultrasound appointment on the very day Orestis has a show. This infuriates Orestis, but he lets her attend it alone.

There, Alexandra learns that they both have cystic fibrosis, and because of this, there is a 50% chance that their baby will have serious problems; the baby won’t live for long.

Alexandra has two options. She can ask the doctor to issue an IV immediately, and they will take the baby out. The heart of the baby will stop, and the baby won’t suffer at all.

If Alexandra prefers to give birth via induced labor the next day, the baby will pass away immediately because the lungs won’t be developed enough.

Alexandra chooses to have the IV done immediately because she doesn’t want to give birth if her baby is going to suffer. She doesn’t even ask Orestis before making that decision for their baby. From that day on, their marriage starts falling apart. Orestis continues to feel like a stranger in this marriage.

Alexandra and Orestis part ways

Andreas explains to Orestis why he needs to put forth effort if he wants to save his marriage. He recommends going on a vacation to fix everything.

During the vacation, Orestis notices Andreas touching Alexandra inappropriately. He figures out that they are having an affair because Alexandra is allowing him to do so. He starts feeling like he has become a joke, which leads him to ask for a divorce.

The couple argues, and Alexandra claims that she saved Orestis. She ridicules his love for her by calling him a loser. He then shuts her up by bringing up the topic of her affair with Andreas and further clarifies that he doesn’t owe her anything.

Why does Alexandra return?

In the eighth episode of Maestro in Blue, it is revealed that Alexandra is pregnant again when she buys a book about it from Haris’ library. She later tells Orestis that she used the last remaining eggs they had frozen, and it worked.

Alexandra plans to give their marriage a second shot because she believes their child should have a father and mother. Orestis asks if she came here out of necessity, but he himself gets confused about the situation.

Alexandra reveals that she is pregnant

After giving it some thought and spending time with Klelia, Orestis becomes sure that he is in love with Klelia. He promises Alexandra that he will be there for the child even if they are not together.

Though Alexandra reminds him that this love of theirs won’t last long, as Klelia is just 19 years old, Orestis still plans to pursue it because he doesn’t like being in a couple with Alexandra, who then accepts his decision.

Do Alexandra and Orestis end up together?

After disposing of Charalambos’ body with Fanis, Orestis sees himself as no less than a criminal. Fanis assures him that he did the right thing. Orestis then concludes that he can’t stay on this island anymore.

After putting on the music festival, Orestis immediately leaves with Alexandra for Athens without telling Klelia, who looks for him everywhere.

The show doesn’t hint if they will pursue a romantic relationship or not, but they will definitely work together to provide for their child.
