Netflix’s ‘Sardar Ka Grandson’ redefines the word ‘homecoming’

Netflix India has released the trailer for its upcoming family comedy, ‘Sardar Ka Grandson’. The film stars Neena Gupta and Arjun Kapoor in the lead and is set to premiere on May 18, 2021.

The plot revolves around an elderly matriarch of a Punjabi family (Gupta) who wishes to go to Lahore, Pakistan to get one last glimpse at her ancestral home.

Enter her US return grandson (Kapoor), who will go to any lengths to make sure his grandmother’s wish comes true. However, despite pulling many strings, the high commission rejects a cross border visit that forces Kapoor’s character to think outside the box, and bring the house to India instead.

The streamer also released some first look images for the film:

‘Sardar Ka Grandson’ also stars Rakul Preet Singh, Aditi Rao Hydari, John Abraham, Soni Razdan, Kanwaljit Singh, Kumud Mishra, and Divya Seth. It has been directed by Kaashvie Nair.

Speaking about the film, veteran actor Neena Gupta said:

“This is the first time that I’m playing a character like this. A lot of effort was put into honing the way Sardar talked, looked, and reacted to situations. Sardar Ka Grandson is a joyous ride filled with mixed emotions which will make the audience smile, and also leave a tear or two in their eyes. I just wanted everyone to watch this film with their family and have a great time”

Sharing his thoughts on the project, Arjun Kapoor added:

“Sardar Ka Grandson is an emotional film with a strong message. This will be a perfect family viewing experience – for all! Being a part of the film with such an amazing ensemble cast was a very pleasant experience and shooting with them never felt like work. The experience constantly helped me learn and grow. I can’t wait for the audience to see this sweet relationship between a grandmother and her grandson, which has never been portrayed in this manner.”

The film has been produced by T-Series in collaboration with Emmay Entertainment and JA Entertainment.
