Murder Mubarak cast and creators talk about the film ahead of release

Murder Mubarak, an upcoming murder mystery, is set to release on Netflix on March 15. At the trailer launch, the cast and creators shared their views on the film and their experiences of making it.

A whodunit, Murder Mubarak revolves around the murder of a gym trainer at an elite club, where a detective must uncover the killer among the club’s wealthy members.

Adapted from Anuja Chauhan’s novel Club You To Death, the film boasts an ensemble cast and is produced by Dinesh Vijan, with direction by Homi Adajania

While discussing the film, Vijan praised Chauhan’s novel and its adaptation into the script by Suprotim Sengupta and Gazal Dhaliwal.

In Vijan’s words, “What’s special about Murder Mubarak was Anuja’s book, this tremendous cast, Netflix being the ultimate destination, and Homi Adajania, who is, I think, probably the best murder-mystery teller.”

Adajania remained tight-lipped about the mystery, but he did mention that one of the reasons he makes films is to have a fantastic life experience and create good memories.

Apart from working with Karisma Kapoor, who happens to be his old friend, working with Pankaj Tripathi, whom he described as a gem of a human being, certainly gave him the experience and memories he had hoped for.

Speaking of Tripathi, when asked about his collaboration with Netflix, he joked, “It’s a very good collaboration. God has made me for you, for Netflix.”

He also highlighted how OTT platforms provide artists with opportunities to showcase their talent and tell their stories, which is one of the reasons he likes this collaboration.

Tripathi appeared confident about Murder Mubarak’s success, stating, “I will tell you right now that this is going to be the most-liked film of the year.”

Similarly, Karisma Kapoor, known for being selective about her roles, revealed that when she heard the script, she felt like she had to be a part of the film.

Kapoor found her character interesting, stating, “I think you’ll get to see a very different me in Shehnaaz Noorani.”

She further elaborated, “She (Shehnaaz Noorani) is, yes, an actress and maybe a dream girl from suspense movies, but she’s very real. She’s very quirky and eccentric, but she’s very human, and that’s what I found really intriguing and different.”

Vijay Varma, on the subject of his character, a heartbroken lawyer, said, “It was a little bit of a break from the bad guys that I’ve played.”

He also talked about his character’s love-hate relationship with the club where the murder takes place, with Tripathi emphasizing how strange of a place it is.

Like Varma, Tisca Chopra’s role offered her the chance to explore something different from her usual portrayals as distressed mothers.

This comedy film was a new experience for her, which she described as enjoyable. Adajania’s direction made the experience even better.

Chopra stated, “He (Adajania) has this way of making everything seem easy-breezy. He’d let you do your own thing, very improvisational.”

Sara Ali Khan, thankful for the opportunity to work with the cast, mentioned that she learned a lot, especially since this genre was new to her.

When asked what she found interesting about the film, she answered, “The process of finding out who the killer is, the world that Homi sir invites you into, the world that Dino sir is presenting to you, it’s just so wholesome, so funny, so interesting.”

On the other hand, Sanjay Kapoor found the experience of working with an ensemble cast in a film directed by Adajania exciting.

Lastly, Suhail Nayyar also talked about his character, a naive but misunderstood man, as well as his experience of playing the role.

Hailing from Delhi, the city where the film is set, Nayyar himself has encountered many similar characters, which made it easier for him to step into the role.

Without revealing too much, he hinted that sometimes things are not as they appear, but other times they are. The truth about his character can only be discovered by watching the film, leaving the audience intrigued.
