Hong Beom-Jun: Queen of Tears character explained

Hong Beom-Jun, a major supporting character in Queen of Tears, is the father to Hong Hae-In and Hong Soo-Cheol, as well as the vice-chairman of the Queens Group.

The vice-chairman of Queens Conglomerate and the father-in-law to Baek Hyun-Woo, Hong Beom-Jun comes across as a crucial part of the wealthy family and yet his erroneous self-worth assessment has become a great pain for him.

Riddled with self-reproach

Hong Beom-Jun doesn’t have a high opinion of himself. As part of the Queens family, he believes he’s one of the less reliable ones among all.

In fact, he says his family has never relied on him, that his father had always been the backbone of the family and all his kids have only ever relied on him.

According to him, his father is the pillar of his family and that hurt him, but he also felt relieved at times. This fact only eats away at his self-esteem and sense of self-worth.

When he finds out Hae-In is dying, he puts on a brave, smiley face, reassuring her and telling her to trust him. However, on the inside, he thinks saying that probably meant nothing to her, since his kids have never relied on him.

All that said, these are the inner doubts and self-esteem issues that his brain is riddled with. The reality entails another truth. Beom-Jun has been shown to be somewhat of an outlier in the family.

Beom-Jun’s true qualities

He’s not quick to passion or partiality, and he goes with the most rational and well-thought approach. He listens to Hyun-Woo and his advice instead of taking his son’s passionate and amateur pleas.

He is brutal and cold-blooded, as well as an unforgiving businessman, but his ways only serve to protect his family and their interests.

Beom-Jun is also very loving and warm towards his daughter Hae-In, which stands in stark contrast with the estranged, cold, and bitter relationship that his wife has with her.

With his in-laws, his relationship is immediately warmer and easier in comparison to her wife’s. He is a lot more emphatic with them, and when he learns of his daughter’s terminal illness, Hong Beom-Jun is shattered to bits.

He blames himself for not knowing of his daughter’s pain as her parent and doesn’t blame Hyun-Woo for keeping that a secret from him.

Now, he looks ahead with a bit more confidence in becoming a more reliable pillar for his family and especially his children.
