Amrutha is one of the major supporting characters in Prime Video’s mystery-thriller series, Dhootha. The character is played by Prachi Desai.
Amrutha is esteemed journalist Sagar Varma’s personal assistant. Soon, she comes to learn that he’s not exactly the principled journalist that others see him as.
Sagar tells her how they make money and how they must work with the politicians to benefit financially and progress as a capitalistic endeavor. Meanwhile, the two become close as she confides in him the details of her abusive marriage.
Their constant proximity and growing intimacy lead to an affair and the two have sex several times before an undesired outcome presents itself to them.
Affair
Sagar has been cheating on Priya with his personal assistant, Amrutha. Their affair eventually leads to Amrutha’s pregnancy, an unwanted situation that occurs even though she is consistent with the pills.
Her abusive husband Tapas learns that she’s pregnant with someone else’s baby and beats her up badly. She ends up hospitalized, with her unborn baby not surviving.
Despite such physical and emotional trauma, she doesn’t reveal his name to Tapas.
Realization
When Sagar learns of it all, he is relieved that at least it’s not his baby with his wife who’s dead, but the one he wasn’t aware of, nor one he ever cared about. He feels it is good that he dodged this unwanted pregnancy.
She endures an extreme amount of physical harm for Sagar. And yet, he’s unfazed and unbothered by her condition, and quickly hands her his credit card to contend with her troubles, telling her they can’t see each other again anymore.
Vengeance
To have her revenge on such a cold-hearted sociopath, she pays a nurse to do certain things before she passes away. The first one is to mail the dead fetus to Priya, also telling her that it’s the result of Sagar’s infidelity.
The second thing she does is to send Tapas a video message in which she reveals Sagar’s name, before asking him to take revenge on him for her, as she slits her own throat and dies.
Tapas watched the video and visits Priya at her father’s home, quickly killing him after bursting through the door. He reveals to her why he’s there but ultimately fails to kill her or her unborn baby.
