Happily Ever After episode 5 review: Too many intrusions

*Spoiler Ahead*

Here’s the episode in case you haven’t watched it yet:

The last episode of Happily Ever After left a lot of scope for improvement, and while this one is slightly better, it’s nothing to write home about.

With each episode, we see less of Roneet (Naveen Kasturia) and Avani’s (Harshita Gaur) chemistry, which is definitely the high point of the series. It’s getting too muddled up.

The character of Manny (Shivankit Singh Parihar) is suddenly getting too much screentime and that’s definitely not something the series needs.

Once again, there’s a whole sequence of financial trouble the couple’s facing during their destination wedding. How many times can you repeat the same story element?

Kasturia and Gaur are the only saving grace in the few scenes they have together, without other characters. One scene where the couple meets secretly in a car is heartwarming, and something this web series needs a lot more of.

Avani’s maasi, whose character is introduced to show a woman who doesn’t bow down to conventions decided by the society, just doesn’t work. The message is right, but the execution is so random and forced you just know it could easily be skipped.

A few scenes bring out chuckles, but the narrative has been slowly declining. There’s no direction. One can only wonder whether this story could have easily been told in five episodes, but looks destined for the usual ten that The Zoom Studios follows.

It’s intriguing to think we’re only halfway there. It already looks like the writers have stretched the story as much as they could.
