Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 3 review: Protracted season has several issues

In season 3 of Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, Po, and the others attempt to finish their mission of destroying the Tiangshang weapons. The series is streaming on Netflix.

Story

Po and the Dragon Knights have one goal in mind, which is to destroy the Tiangshang weapons. They face many obstacles along the way, including the Pirate Queen Forouzan, the Master of War Sir Drake, and Veruca Dumont.

They also have to find out how to destroy the weapons, while they constantly change hands from one person to the next. Po and his friends must go through a lot of hardship to save the world and learn lessons about themselves too.

Positives

There are some truly funny moments and the script is certainly well written at times. Despite being a children’s show, it can appeal to adults looking for a casual watch.

The voiceover work is great and many well-established names have been brought in to take part in this series and they do not disappoint.

Negatives

There isn’t enough maturation or emotional growth throughout the series even if it is a kid’s show. Po’s simple-mindedness can be very frustrating at times.

The animation continues to be a huge sticking point as it doesn’t hold up to the level of the films. There are times when it looks downright janky, and with Dreamworks and Netflix behind this title, one would expect better quality than this.

19 episodes are far too long for any series these days, especially one targeted at children. The final arc involving Alfie feels tacked on and isn’t the best narrative the show has explored.

Verdict

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 3 signals the end of this accompanying series but it is not the best offering by any standards. The series does attempt to end with a grand battle but all it serves up is a whimper that few might even get to thanks to the overly long season.
