Under the Queen’s Umbrella season 1 episode 6 recap & review

Episode 6 of Under the Queen’s Umbrella focuses on the aftermath of the crown prince’s death and the investigation into it. The episode is now streaming on Netflix.

Recap

The Queen is in mourning as the King checks in on her every night. Chief State Councilor Hwang is heading an investigation into the death of the Crown Prince and is interrogating physician Kwon.

The councillors once again plead with the king to name a new crown prince but the king says that he will leave it vacant for the time being and they should focus on the investigation.

Everyone is focused on who the next crown prince will be. The Queen Dowager calls in all the princes born to the consorts so that she can talk to them and observe their capabilities.

The consorts of humble backgrounds discuss whether the grand heir is suitable for the position. Meanwhile, Councillor Hwang perpetuates a rumour about the crown prince being poisoned to draw out the queen.

He wishes to discredit the queen and hasten the start of the taekhyeon to select the next successor. The crown princess is convinced that there are people who set out to kill her children.

The queen orders that the crown princess is taken to her quarters so that she can keep a closer eye on them. Councillor Hwang pushes the limit by bringing in Lady Shin to be interrogated.

The queen steps in and stops the councillor’s rough methods. Consort Hwang visits her father and tells him to stop the investigation because she persuaded physician Kwon to put in something that was only supposed to worsen the condition of the crown prince.

Consort Tae hears the queen and court lady Shin talking about the medicine from outside and she keeps this information to herself. Prince Uiseong and Prince Bogeom have a fight and Seongnam saves Bogeom.

The queen begins training her sons in the ways that the crown prince was trained. Everyone tells Consort Tae that Prince Bogeom has no chance of becoming the crown prince because he has no noble heritage.

She decides to go to councillor Yoon and tells him about the medicine from outside in exchange for his support of prince Bogeom. Councillor Hwang had initially stopped the investigation to keep his daughter’s secret but now he has another chance after getting the news from councillor Yoon.

The Queen Dowager tries to persuade her son to pick a new heir but he is still hesitant. Councillor Hwang calls for a public interrogation the next day to expose the queen.

He questions physician Kwon about the medicine and even exports the physician’s assistants to testify against him. The king stops the interrogation before the councillor can truly pin down the queen.

The Queen Dowager finds out that the Queen met deposed queen Yoon and warns her to come clean or she’ll do it herself.

The queen goes back to her quarters to spend time with the crown princess and the grand heir. She checks the food brought in and then feeds him a bite. When she sees the drawing that he’s doing about the game he plays with his nursemaid, she gets suspicious.

She checks his legs and finds puncture marks. Then she notices the utensil having a late reaction to the food, and she immediately tries to get the grand heir to spit out the food that he ate just before.

Review

  • The queen has the tide going against her and it is admirable to see her sail through the difficult waters, However, her troubles do not seem to end and it’ll each new episode is awaited with intrigue.
  • It appears that there are no exceptions when it comes to targets as the young grand heir is poisoned. It really goes to show how brutal the royal family and its proceedings were.
  • The reveal that the crown prince was sabotaged is something major and yet another wrinkle in this wonderful story. There are so many twists and turns and the writers have written an exceptional script.
