The Mosquito Coast season 2 episode 2 recap & review: Least Concern Species

The second episode of The Mosquito Coast season 2 sees the Fox family trying to save Allie, who has been bitten by a bug. The episode is now streaming on Apple TV+.

Recap

The Fox family is finally having some quality time, with Allie teaching Dina how to steer a boat. Things go sideways when a storm hits and the family starts losing control of their ride.

The boat suddenly stops and starts drifting. Allie heads into the engine room to check what went wrong.

He manages to get the boat running, but by that time it hits a huge rock and ends up pulling in water inside through a big hole that has been created.

Once the rain stops, the family starts figuring out ways to fix the boat. Allie, as noticed by his family, wasn’t feeling well and soon passes out in front of them.

The family discovers that he has been bitten by a bug. Allie’s condition worsens, and Margot is left with no choice but to follow the smoke they saw earlier.

Allie claimed that the smoke came from an oil rig, and Margot believes that the people there must be having some medicines. After all, they are working out here in the forest.

Margot leaves Dina in charge of taking care of their boat’s situation while she heads toward the smoke with Charlie. She trusts Dina to find a solution, as she is the daughter of Allie Fox.

Margot asks Charlie to be careful when they enter the oil rig, as the people there might be carrying guns to protect themselves from the locals.

They eventually find the source of the smoke and realize that the camp is empty. Margot and Charlie discover bullet holes in the windows of one of the trailers. Upon entering, Margot sees blood inside.

Charlie suggests the blood is dry, which means the people who were here have been long gone. They need medicines, and they shouldn’t leave without them, especially when they have enough time.

They soon come across medicines inside a kitchen. Margot finds the drug Allie needs, and the mother-son duo wastes no time in leaving the place.

Amidst all of this, Dina figures out a way to patch up the hole that has been created on the boat using lifejackets, duct tape, and ratchet straps.

She also gets emotional while taking care of her father the way he used to take care of her when she was a kid.

Margot and Charlie soon arrive with the medicines, and Allie gets back on his feet. He appreciates Dina’s sheer brilliance. After having a meal with his family, Allie takes the break he needed while the rest of them steer toward their destination.

Review

  • The second episode over here moves away from the adrenaline and gives Allie a much-needed rest.
  • The episode doesn’t provide anything important, and it seems like the creators are continuing their efforts of making the characters a bit more interesting.
  • The Fox family aside, the episode does give a good glimpse of the kind of territory the family could be heading towards. It’s better to keep the events that have taken place at the abandoned camp a mystery rather than having a one-off character facing the family.
