Strong Girl Nam-Soon season 1 episode 15 recap & review: Strong Girl Nam-Soon

In Strong Girl Nam-Soon episode 15, Nam-Soon gears up to avenge Myung-Hee’s death, as Ryu Si-O kidnaps her adoptive mother as part of his grand revenge.

Recap

Geum-Ju, Nam-Soon, and many others mourn Myung-Hee at her funeral. Geum-Ju clarifies Bong-Go’s doubts about her relationship with Bread Song.

Nam-Soon decides to go after Ryu Si-O, to get her revenge all on her own. Hee-Sik and his team successfully hack into Si-O’s phone and listen in on his conversations with Nozh.

Ryu Si-O sets loose his men to track down Nam-Soon and her family. Meanwhile, he’s subpoenaed and the government is actively hunting him down and tightening the leash on his business.

Si-O asks Nozh for protection lest he wish to lose the hold over drugs and the antidote. His men later give Nam-Soon’s adoptive mother a gift that has a bomb inside. He calls Nam-Soon to tell her that.

Geum-Ju tracks down Bread Song and confronts him, asking him yet again about his identity and connection with Ryu Si-O. Meanwhile, he asks Nam-Soon to come see him or let her mother die.

Nam-Soon goes alone and takes the pill to save her mother from exploding. A water bottle is kept on top of a pressure-sensitive bomb, and she can’t drink water for obvious reasons.

Nam-Soon tells Si-O to admit defeat if she survives her ordeal for over an hour. He accepts the deal. Geum-Ju runs to her daughter and is incapacitated by the pangs that Nam-Soon feels while crawling on the floor because of extreme thirst.

Geum-Ju chugs a great amount of water from a nearby pipe and soon tells her mother about Nam-Soon’s condition via phone.

Joong-Gan decides to exert the most power she’s ever exerted so that it triggers the psychic connection she shares with her daughter and granddaughter, which she is sure will wake up Nam-Soon.

It does, and Nam-Soon is finally awake, and she soon blasts the doors and the bomb nearby to the sky, before heading off to save her adoptive mother, as Strong Girl Nam-Soon episode 15 rolls the credits.

Review

  • Strong Girl Nam-Soon episode 15 marks the penultimate entry of this first season and it definitely doesn’t live up to the expectations. Sure, there are stakes, but they are not high enough.
  • Ryu Si-O is absurdly powerful and yet he spends most of the time calling people. An all-out physical display of his vengeful quest would better suit the story right now, instead of one informed by tact and strategy.
  • Leave it to Bong-Go to disrespect a moment of mourning to give relief to his insecure heart, asking Geum-Ju if she’s romantically involved with another man when she isn’t even done crying yet.
  • Perhaps the finale of Strong Girl Nam-Soon changes the picture for the better because as things stand now, the narrative is really weak and there are little thrills or subversions that can enliven affairs.
