In Strong Girl Nam-Soon episode 1, Nam-Soon learns about her true identity and lineage and decides to return to Korea to find her parents, who meanwhile are searching frantically for their missing daughter.
The wealthy owner of a pawning business, Hwang Geum-Joo has been searching for her missing daughter Nam-Soon ever since her ex-husband Kang Bong-Go lost their daughter in Mongolia.
Nam-Soon was later found by a Mongolian couple who raised her like their own daughter. She would get flashes of the memories of her childhood every now and then while her taste in Korean entertainment and men would also develop rapidly.
At age 22, she finally bids farewell to her adoptive parents to go to Korea and look for her biological parents. Meanwhile, a key characteristic of Nam-Soon is that she possesses superhuman strength, which runs in her family.
All the women in her family possess such superhuman strength but Nam-Soon is supposed to be the strongest and most unique of them all.
Geum-Joo also hosts a contest for the strongest woman on Earth, in hopes that her daughter might one day enter it and reunite with her.
In the present day, a young girl named Hwa-Ja exhibits strength akin to Geum-Joo, and she is sure that she has found her Nam-Soon at last, although Bong-Go and others in the family doubt that it’s the case.
On the flight from Mongolia to Gangnam, there is a mule that the police rush to nab at the airport. Before the flight lands, the controls are shut off and the plane succumbs to the turbulence thereafter.
Nam-Soon steps up jumps out of the airplane and stops it with her superhuman speed and strength.
A shady guy who’s likely the mule that Detective Kang Hee-Sik and the police were looking for, is somehow safe and inside a bus at the airport, looking on to Nam-Soon, smirking as he realizes the feat she just carried out.
- Strong Girl Nam-Soon displays what it’s about right off the bat as an overall good premiere sets all the pieces for the story moving forward.
- Yay for women’s power being this literal and this cool, in spite of the hilarity and absurdity that comes with it.
- The slapstick is also funny, though the show’s real strength lies in the combination of hilarity and drama. The emotional beats are very good and work really well, especially during the strong girl Nam-Soon’s time in Mongolia.
