Spy x Family season 2 episode 3 recap & review

In Spy x Family season 2 episode 3, Yuri is on a mission to catch a writer involved in writing against Ostania. The episode is now streaming on Netflix.

Recap

After successfully catching a person under suspicion of espionage, Yuri is assigned another mission. Some books and articles are being sold that mock and ridicule Ostania. The contents are all fabrications and conspiracy theories.

These books and articles are sold to the West through an underground publishing company right here in Ostania. Franklin Perkin is a name that has surfaced among the writers.

Yuri has to tail Franklin, gather evidence, and catch the people buying his work. Yuri quickly hops on this mission without even taking any rest.

For the first two days, Yuri fails to find Franklin doing any notable activity. Eventually, he catches him creating an event to defame Ostania. Franklin grabs a kid’s toy gun and throws it in a dumpster.

He captures the picture of kids going through the garbage, which will do well for his article. Yuri wants to make Franklin pay right away, but he is held back because they need to catch who Franklin is dealing with too.

Yuri overhears one of Franklin and his father’s conversations and wonders if Franklin is motivated by the concern for his family, which is struggling to survive in this country.

Franklin hasn’t made any suspicious contacts at home or outside. It means he will make contact at his workplace, the Post Office. Yuri catches Franklin dropping a letter.

A few days later, Yuri and the State Security Service show up outside Franklin’s house. They have already arrested his buyer. Franklin acts cocky while getting arrested. However, Yuri assures him that he will submit an application that will make sure his father gets some assistance.

After getting this mission done, Yuri visits his sister and is overwhelmed to receive her praise.

The next mission follows the adventures of Bondman, who stops high-profile missions while making women from the rival party fall for him. He thinks it’s his sophisticated suit, shiny car, highly skilled techniques, and gentlemanly behavior that help.

He soon ends up with too many women around him who call him a player and attack him. Anya sees this as a love story—something she can talk about with Becky. Meanwhile, Loid watches and wonders when did Bond Man show gentlemanly behavior.

In another act, Loid and Yor take Anya to the rooftop of a department store, where Anya asks her father to let her ride a polar bear ride. Loid gets lost thinking about how this ride works and its agenda until Anya starts crying, forcing Loid to give her money to ride it.

The next act sees Loid and Yor take Anya to a pool when she requests a visit to a beach. After reading the minds of kids who urinate in the pool, Anya leaves and is determined to never go to the pool again.

In the final act, Damian wakes up an hour early before the roll call to study, while Anya, back at home, is late for school again.

Review

  • The third episode of Spy x Family season 2 leans more on the action-drama side with Yuri’s mission. Anyhow, the episode slips in a few moments that bring out the version of Yuri that comes out in front of Yor.
  • Yuri meets a reasonable villain in the form of Franklin Perkin. The episode makes viewers hate this character until they learn what he is going through. Franklin even receives a touching end.
  • Lastly, Spy x Family is now slowing things down when it comes to moving the plot forward. The short acts are funny, but they hardly generate interest among viewers, who would rather skip them.
