My Hero Academia season 6 episode 10 recap & review: The Ones Within Us

‘My Hero Academia’ season 6 episode 10 sees Deku meet his predecessors during a battle against Shigaraki and All For One, inside the metaphysical realm that belongs to the villain.

Recap

In the opening scene of ‘My Hero Academia’ season 6 episode 10, Bakugo is impaled by the Rivet Stab attack, courtesy of All For One who’s taken over Shigaraki’s body.

As Todoroki catches a falling Bakugo, Deku rages and attacks the enemy.

When AFO starts siphoning off Deku’s quirk, the two lose consciousness and transport to the consciousness of the former. Shigaraki stands opposite Deku, with All For One protruding out of his body.

The atmospheric pressure of this metaphysical realm pins Deku down to the floor when Nana Shimura appears beside him. AFO scoffs and taunts her and enrages Tomura, who’s livid at his master for depriving him of his will.

AFO triggers Shigaraki more, introducing him to his grandmother. Shigaraki rages on and the villains begin to take more of Deku’s All For One quirk. However, beside him appears another predecessor, this time it’s All For One’s younger brother — the original All For One wielder.

They shield Deku while AFO’s words get a rise out of him. As Deku finally stands up and lunges at the villains, he’s transported back to the real world and regains consciousness temporarily, before losing all energy and falling to the ground.

Meanwhile, Gigantomachia dashes off to the city and Toga decides to set off to contend with the heroes working hard to save the civilians, especially Ochaco. Assuming the appearance of an old lady, Toga misleads Uravity to an isolated spot and attacks her.

Asking her if she and the other heroes are going to kill her just as they did Twice, Toga forces her knife towards Ochaco. The hero expresses disdain at Toga’s trivial question she wants to ask while delaying the hero’s rescue mission.

‘My Hero Academia’ season 6 episode 10 ends moments after Ochaco counters Toga’s attack, throwing her away, and embracing for the fight ahead.

Review

  • ‘The Ones Within Us’ explores and expands upon the ancestral fight between the good and the evil that persists between the carriers of One For All and All For One.
  • The episode reveals more of this enmity through the metaphysical avatars of the previous One For All wielders.
  • The standoff between the two factions and their philosophies is great to see and chew on, even if only a bit of that lore and philosophical discussion is delved into.
  • Nothing of note or remark is present in terms of the animation, as the action is scant and delivered largely with still frames and a soppy pace.
