Mob Psycho 100 season 3 episode 3 recap & review: Conceited 100%

Mob Psycho 100 season 3 episode 3 sees the rise of a new leader of the Psycho Helmet Cult; Mob develops a misunderstanding that he’s getting popular with girls lately.

Recap

Tsubomi has a real snot issue due to her cold and she can’t remove her hand from her face because the other girls might see and grab a picture of it, eventually posting it online.

Amid all these fears and anxieties, Mob arrives as a hero and distracts the other girl with some task, handing Tsubomi some tissues.

Tsubomi thanks Mob and says how they haven’t talked in a while, following which she bids a quick farewell with a “see you later”. These three words are enough for Mob’s heart to start fluttering like crazy.

On his way home from school, Mezato stops him in his tracks to ask him to accompany her to the Psycho Helmet gathering on Sunday night.

Seconds later, Tome arrives and reminds Mob that he promised her to go and help her find telepathists on Sunday.

Both the girls leave and in comes Emi from the back, telling Mob how he’s become popular with the girls lately. It strikes Mob soon and with a mental spark comes a realization that he’s indeed becoming popular with girls, including even Tsubomi.

From thereon, Mob starts hearing things and praises, also, imagining girls fawning over him. While his misunderstanding increases, so has the number of shady religious organizations at the Broccoli Tree.

Mezato calls over and almost convinces Mob to go to the gathering with her. Meanwhile, Dimple arrives and asks for the same, claiming they should join forces and become the gods that all those cults wish for.

Mob refuses and asks Dimple to refrain from his tactics of old, telling him that he’ll be going to the gathering instead (clearly still high from his misunderstanding).

At the consultation office, Serizawa updates Reigen on his night school and Mob does too, including about his upcoming visit to the Psycho Helmet gathering.

Reigen is reluctant to this idea until he sees the following that the cult has managed to aggregate and the monetary beneficial opportunities that it opens the doors to.

Mob heads off to the place and waits for Tome, who does arrive at the promised spot, nor does Mezato, while Mob sits and waits for the two from the afternoon till evening.

Meanwhile, at the gathering, all the numerous different cults that the tree has given rise to come to the audition and appointment of the new founder of the Psycho Helmet Cult.

A boy resembling Mob while also looking like he’s made of vegetative matter arrives on stage and proclaims himself as the founder of the Psycho Helmet Religion.

There’s outrage from all corners at this but they’re all horrified when he performs a miracle, growing a giant broccoli tree from nothing in an instant. Before anything else transpires, Mob Psycho 100 season 3 rolls the credits.

Review

  • Mob’s spark of hope and misunderstanding is drowsed out by the two girls standing him up when the time comes, and one can’t help but feel bad for him.
  • Even though Mob has been on an upward incline in terms of his independence and self-reliance lately, the misunderstanding of becoming more popular comes as a bit of a downer.
  • It is bound to contribute some percentage to Mob’s inevitable rage-out later in the Mob Psycho 100 season 3.
  • The Psycho Helmet guy, who seems to be puppeteered by Dimple, is genuinely creepy and a lot of fans with Trypophobia are going to have a field day with this episode.
  • While Mob’s character growth continues and he’s going to learn some more lessons in development down the line, it’s Dimple’s arc that seems to be the real highlight of Mob Psycho 100 season 3.
  • It feels like the green gaseous ghost has finally decided to conclude his arc on a high note, already starting to devolve into the older, sleazier, and power-hungry version of himself that he was early on in Mob Psycho 100.
