Mob Psycho 100 season 3 episode 11 recap & review: Trauma

‘Mob Psycho 100’ season 3 episode 11 sees the raging Mob being met with his friends and family who all try to stop him in his tracks, while the titular psychic goes through enormous turmoils within his own psyche.

Recap

Ritsu is in a meeting when he’s struck by a sudden hunch that something terrible involving his brother has transpired. Fearing that Mob has acted out as a result of Tsubomi’s rejection, Ritsu runs off to his brother.

Meanwhile, the former Claw members are no match for the blind berserker Mob. Thankfully for them, Toichiro lands behind them and steps forward to contend with the problem.

Getting overwhelmed, Toichiro is assisted by his son Sho, who combines his powers and the two take the berserk Mob on together, only to not amount to much resistance. While they flee, the Body Improvement Club arrives, before getting swatted away like flies.

Ritsu arrives and takes on his brother, thinking back on the day in their childhood when Mob switched his persona, and how years of his bottled-up emotions gave rise to this monstrous B-side of his.

Ritsu hits his own 100% limit, but ultimately is no match for his opponent who’s fighting himself on the inside. As Mob creates a tornado around himself, inside his psychic plane, he finally confronts this other personality.

The other persona asks Mob to disappear for denying his own feelings all the time. Mob Psycho 100 season 3 episode 11 ends with Reigen and Serizawa heading off to the centre of the tornado.

Review

  • ‘Trauma’ finally explains the origin story of Mob’s “???” persona that bursts out every time he crosses his limit. Ritsu delves a bit into the explanation behind his brother’s second persona that has wreaked immense havoc upon the city.
  • The confrontation of the two Mobs is another scene that highlights the anime’s mature takes on mental health amid all the goofy and hyped-up action that makes its backdrop.
  • With Mob Psycho 100 season 3 coming to an end, the titular character’s growth is reaching its most important stage where he finally gets to open up to himself and contend a bit with the part of him he’s always had to suppress.
