Demon Slayer season 3 episode 7 recap & review: Awful Villain

In Demon Slayer season 3 episode 7, Tanjiro confronts another form of Hantengu, while Muichiro tries to break out of Gyokko’s water pot prison.

Recap

Tanjiro goes for Hantengu’s neck but the tiny demon resists the attack until Nezuko’s blood-given powers run out and Tanjiro fails to push the sword further. Meanwhile, he feels an extremely ominous presence behind him, who he knows isn’t any of the demons he’s just defeated.

It’s a new Hantengu clone, but this one is the embodiment of Hatred, who came into existence when Anger sucked in the other three demons inside him. Being a combination of four of Hantengu’s clones, this one’s a real problem.

He’s also a problem because he’s really diabolical in his philosophy and skewed viewpoints, on top of being absurdly strong, so much so that a mere glare from him freezes Tanjiro and Genya, who can’t believe how overwhelmed they are with the demon’s power.

The demon uses wooden snakes and also locks up tiny Hantengu inside a wooden case while yapping on about how Tanjiro and his like are cruel and prey on the weak. Tanjiro can’t stand this annoying hypocrisy and finally, talks, calling the demon cruel and an evil demon who will be beheaded by him, prompting the villain to attack.

Meanwhile, Muichiro continues to lose oxygen while submerged inside Gyokko’s water vase, absent-minded and aloof. Gyokko decides to take a look inside the workshop and finds Haganezuka working on a sword with a lot of focus.

When his words fail to distract the swordsmith, Gyokko uses his attack, slashing away at Haganezuka, who remains unfazed and his attention to the craft undivided.

His mask falls, but his focus doesn’t, which really gets under Gyokko’s skin, who’s angered at seeing another artist pouring this much focus on his craft, something he admits he feels bad about because he’s never been able to do something like it.

Muichiro wastes his last attack to get out of the captivity and loses hope, wishing for more Hashiras to eventually arrive and help. However, Tanjiro appears in front of him and gives him some words of encouragement that he says Tanjiro never said to him.

Meanwhile, Kotetsu arrives and tries with his knife to free Muichiro, only to get attacked severely by one of Gyokko’s unholy creations. He then breathes some air into the water vase, allowing Muichiro to breathe. Before this, Hashira realizes that Tanjiro’s words just now came from his father’s mouth in the past.

He uses a powerful technique and finally breaks out of his prison. Shortly thereafter, Demon Slayer season 3 episode 7 ends on two cliffhangers.

Review

  • Demon Slayer season 3 episode 7 gives the audience a look at a maskless Haganezuka and it seems that the fan edits on social media would be all the rage soon.
  • Apart from a pretty face, Haganezuka also shows a preternatural amount of restraint and focus. In a sea of complex and grand attacks between the demons and those who slay them, it’s Haganezuka’s unflinching attention to his craft that proves to be the mightiest move against Gyokko.
  • It’s also great to see Muichiro finally show some signs of warmth after he manages to rejuvenate one of the important memories of his past.
