Demon Slayer season 3 episode 11 marks the finale of the current installment as Tanjiro takes the final stab at Hantengu before Nezuko’s new powers are revealed to him, and to the big bad Muzan himself.
Tanjiro, Genya, and Nezuko chase after the tiny Hantengu. To catch up to his incredible speed, Tanjiro uses the knowledge he gained from Zenitsu, channeling all his power to his legs.
He catches up to Hantengu and slashes away his sword, managing to plunge it inside his neck but he can’t slice it off. Hantengu expands his size and overwhelms Tanjiro, but Genya and Nezuko help him gain his footing back.
As they all fall down the cliff, Hantengu makes for the run, as daybreak is just around the corner. He runs off to consume some humans to regain his strength but Tanjiro preps to stop him again, this time with the help of the sword that Haganezuka has been working on, but hasn’t finished yet.
He tries to go for it but the sun comes up, making Nezuko burn up and Tanjiro is conflicted about what he must do. Nezuko kicks him away so that he can go and save others. Tanjiro finally catches up to Hantengu and kills him, thinking that Nezuko has perished as well.
However, to his surprise and delight, she lives, all healed and even being able to talk now. She still behaves like a kid, though, and her vocabulary is limited. Meanwhile, just as Mitsuri is about to die, Zohakuten perishes as a result of Hantengu’s beheading.
Elsewhere, Muzan learns about Nezuko’s ability to survive in the sunlight, and he can’t contain his excitement. His origin story is revealed and how he gained his powers and appetite for blood and flesh, as well as his quest.
Time passes, and Tanhiro finally bids farewell to the village mid-recovery. Before Demon Slayer season 3 episode 11 rolls the credits, Tanjiro is greeted by one and all in the village, as they shower him with flowers and praise him.
Demon Slayer season 3 ending explained in detail:
What happened to Hantengu as a human?
Hantengu had the same traits as a human as he does as a demon. He was always whimpering and squealing like a meek, wet cat.
He also had a great propensity for thievery, so much so that he’d wrong the blind people too. When he’d get caught, he’d kill to flee the consequences.
However, he was eventually arrested by the magistrate but a day before he was to be killed, Muzan offered him a way out by becoming a demon, and he accepted it.
Does Nezuko die?
Nezuko doesn’t die. In the Demon Slayer season 3 finale, it seems that Nezuko has been usurped by the sunlight. However, Tanjiro is shocked and delighted to see that his sister lives.
Nezuko’s skin which was burning for moments is now all healed up. She also begins to finally mouth words, repeatedly saying “thank goodness” with a bright smile. Muzan learns about her being impervious to the sun and gets delighted too.
Why does Muzan want Nezuko?
Muzan has been toiling away at making a demon who’s impervious to the sunlight. This is because he can’t expose himself to it or he will die. This all started as an aftereffect of the medicine that saved his life.
To be able to walk freely in the sun would mean that he’s conquered it all and in his own words, become a “perfect” being. This is now possible that he’s found a demon who can provide him with this ability.
He’d go about doing it by absorbing Nezuko, which means he now has his eyes set on her and there will be a perilous new chapter that sees the protagonists go up against the demons and Muzan with all their might.
- Demon Slayer season 3 episode 11 is the finale, and hence the longest entry of the installment. However, it doesn’t quite feel like a finale.
- Apart from the immense pain and suffering that the protagonists endure, the climactic battle with Hantengu feels much weaker than the battle with Zohakuten.
- Hantengu takes up most of the screen time while the really exciting stuff arrives in the form of Muzan’s origin story. His apparent desire to absorb Nezuko and achieve his quest inspires genuine thrills.
