Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War part 1 episode 7 recap & review

The seventh episode of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War sees Ichigo going up against the Quincy King, Yhwach. The episode is now streaming on Hulu.

Even after getting cut into two halves at the hands of Yhwach, Yamamoto’s attempt to fight back continues. Yhwach proceeds to cut the hand of Yamamoto that was holding his sword.

He explains how Yamamoto, over the years, has gone soft after exterminating the Quincies. He is no longer the beast he once was.

Yhwach vows that this is the end of the Soul Society. The Quincies make their final moves to erase the remaining members of the society.

Ichigo, inside Quilge’s jail, senses the deaths taking place, and his rage helps him break out. Ichigo wastes no time and eliminates the enemy standing in front of him.

By doing so, he puts Yhwach and the rest of the Quincies on notice. Ichigo secures some of the Soul Society members and pays Byakuya a visit, assuring him that Renji and Yukia are alive.

Byakuya further asks him to save the Soul Society. Ichigo leaves without answering his question and stops Yhwach the moment he tries to leave the premises.

Yhwach is left with no option but to battle Ichigo, and he even manages to bring him down. He further plans to take him to the castle, only to realize that Ichigo is still conscious and has evaded his attack using Blut Vene.

Yhwach realizes that he made a mistake by sending Quilge to take care of Ichigo. The memories within Ichigo’s Spiritual Pressure have awakened way too soon.

Ichigo attempted to release it constantly to free himself from Quilge’s jail, and his Spiritual Pressure got mixed up with Quilge’s Spiritual Pressure.

This process drew out the memories within Ichigo’s Spiritual Pressure. Apparently, Quilge’s jail can’t contain Quincies. Yhwach points out that Ichigo doesn’t know anything about himself or his own mother.

He planned on re-educating him once he took him to the castle. He challenges Ichigo again, and the second round ensues.

Yhwach defeats Ichigo twice in a row. Unfortunately, he fails to get the job done as his time outside Schatten Bereich is up. Yhwach wonders how come time has passed by so quickly and remembers his meeting with Aizen, who might be responsible for this.

Ichigo attacks Yhwach in an attempt to stop him from fleeing, but Haschwalth intervenes and cuts Ichigo’s sword down. As the Quincies leave, Yhwach promises to come back for Ichigo. He proceeds to call him his son.

  • Unlike the previous episode, the seventh episode was low on action. Instead, it put forth a lot of questions and mysteries around Ichigo.
  • Ichigo’s arrival, as usual, was quite heroic and it’s good to see that the show didn’t try to destroy Yhwach’s strong presence. He continues to be intimidating.
  • The battle aside, the episode features an interesting dialogue between Yhwach and Ichigo. The anime establishes that there is a lot the viewers and characters are going to learn in the coming episodes.
