Zack Snyder to create Norse Mythology anime for Netflix

Snyder (300, Watchmen, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League) is set to partner with Jay Olivia for the new show. Netflix reported that the anime will be set in the world of Norse Mythology.

Olivia and Snyder have worked together in the past on many feature films (Justice League, Man of Steel). According to a recent press release by the streaming platform, Olivia will serve as showrunner and director.

Furthermore, both of them will also serve as executive producers. The show will be produced by Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller through their company’s new venture, Stone Quarry animation.

“Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation.

“We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style,” said John Derderian, head of Anime programming for Netflix.

Snyder has been taking up many new projects recently after returning from a sabbatical. He left directorial duties midway through the production of DCEU’s Justice League due to personal reasons and had been away since 2017.

He has currently got his hands full with another Netflix original, Army of the Dead, which is rumoured to release in 2020. Olivia, on the other hand, is working on the anime series, Trese for the platform.

This news marks another addition to the platform’s evergrowing list of anime. It already includes ULTRAMAN, Devilman Crybaby, GODZILLA: The Planet Eater, BAKI, The Seven Deadly Sins and many more.

There are numerous other anime titles which are currently in development. These include Transformers: War for Cybertron, Pacific Rim, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 and Altered Carbon.

New titles like Cannon BustersSeis Manos, and Levius will be streaming later this year.
