Will Smith drops trailer for ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ reunion

“You’re not ready for this trailer. You couldn’t be ready for this trailer.” And so remarked Will Smith as he unveiled the much anticipated, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” Reunion trailer on his YouTube channel

Earlier this year it was announced that the 90s hit sitcom will return for a reunion special on HBO Max for the show’s 30th anniversary. Set to air around thanksgiving, the unscripted special is bankrolled by Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s Westbrook media company.

The preview features the cast looking back on shared moments, “special” tape nights on set and their respective casting journeys, going back to the very beginning. Original cast members Smith, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, Alfonso Ribeiro and DJ Jazzy Jeff, chill out as they indulge in good-natured banter, sustaining the chemistry from 30 years ago.

“Nobody ever asked me if I could act,” says Smith, as he attempts to recall how he came to lead the show. “And you couldn’t!” a quick-witted Ribeiro jokes as everyone bursts into laughter. Remembering the “6-foot-4 Shakespearean beast” the members pay tribute to the late James Avery, as they fondly reminisce over time spent under his guidance.

The cast can also be seen reflecting on the enduring legacy of the series, which Ali says “meant Black excellence to people” because of “the way that we loved each other.” Punctuated by music, dance and special guests, the reunion takes a deep dive into the pools of nostalgia.

The wholesome special is slated to premiere on November 19 on HBO Max.
