“All the cool kids were wearing it. This documentary explores A&F’s pop culture reign in the late ’90s and early 2000s and how it thrived on exclusion. Selling exclusivity comes at a price.”
Alison Klayman is best known for her award-winning 2012 documentary film Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry, about Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei.
In the ’90s, Abercrombie & Fitch was the rage of the town, symbolising the all-American look. The brand provided a one-way pass into the club of cool kids. The exclusivity resulted in its raging success.
But, exclusivity didn’t take much time to turn into outright discrimination opening the doors of trouble for the go-to brand of the ’90s.
