Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is all set to direct a film on Vikas Dubey, a gangster in the state of Uttar Pradesh who was responsible for the death of eight policemen was gunned down in an encounter after trying to escape from police custody.

After the killings of eight policemen, a lot of anger was seen among the Indian citizens questioning the safety and security measures in the state. The police department got into swift action and started hunting for Vikas Dubey and his gang.

Producer Shailesh R Singh’s Karma Media and Entertainment, in association with Polaroid Media, has bought the rights for the upcoming project on the gangster. Mehta, known for directing acclaimed films like Aligarh, Omerta and the National Award-winning Rajkummar Rao starrer Shahid, said he will approach the subject responsibly.

Bollywood is known for taking up stories and narratives from major happenings in the country but the critics have always been of the opinion that glorifying such stories affects the mindset of the country’s youth mostly in the negative way. According to many, every movie on any criminal has left impressions of him/her being a Messiah which passes the wrong message to the audience.
