Met Gala 2020 postponed; memorable moments to be streamed on YouTube

The Met Gala is unarguably one of the biggest nights for the fashion industry. For years, the first Monday in May has been dedicated to raising funds for Met’s Costume Institute.

The event is attended by the biggest names in the industry.

This year, however, will be different. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Metropolitan Museum of Art decided to postpone the Met Gala 2020 scheduled to take place on May 4, 2020.

The theme for Met 2020 was “About Time: Fashion and Duration” and was supposed to be hosted by Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emma Stone.

Instead, Vogue will host a virtual event looking back at the most memorable moments in Met Gala history. A Moment with the Met will be exclusively live-streamed on YouTube on Monday (May 4, 2020). The live-stream will begin at 6:00 PM EST (3:30 AM IST) on Vogue’s YouTube channel.

Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief and Met Gala Co-Chair Anna Wintour revealed the inspiration behind the event:

“It would be impossible to recreate the gala on Monday evening, though I have loved hearing how so many are marking the occasion in their own ways… So instead, I asked a few friends to join me for a simple moment—one that I hope will bring us all a bit of joy.”

The livestream will also include a performance by Florence and the Machine and a DJ set by Virgil Abloh.

Vogue will also make a donation to the Costume Institute, Vogue and the CFDA’s “A Common Thread” initiative, encouraging the viewers to donate as well.

Last year, Lady Gaga had the most iconic entry of all times with four wardrobe changes on the red carpet which left everyone mesmerised.
