Netflix’s ‘The Old Guard’ sequel to be directed by Victoria Mahoney

According to a recent update by Netflix, Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne are touted to return for the sequel to action film, ‘The Old Guard’, which will be directed by Victoria Mahoney.

‘The Old Guard’ is based on the Graphic Novel series of the same name by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández. Meanwhile, Mahoney, who is the first and the only black woman to direct a Star Wars film, said in a statement:

“Genuinely blown backwards by the collective levels of talent, skill and savvy that went into carving The Old Guard. I must’ve watched it over a hundred times, and as such, cannot communicate the true measure of my excitement–being invited on The Old Guard journey alongside ferocious badasses.”

Furthermore, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also expected to return for the action film.

Greg Rucka will serve as the scriptwriter as well as the Executive Producer, and the film will be produced by Theron, Skydance, Beth Kono and AJ Dix for Denver and Delilah, Marc Evans Productions, and Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Bythewood, who directed the first film, said:

“I love The Old Guard  and the story and characters I was honoured to put into the world. It was exciting to disrupt the genre. I have decided not to direct the sequel, but will stay on as a producer. I leave our franchise in good hands as my girl Vic Mahoney takes on this next chapter.”

‘The Old Guard’ is Netflix’s one of the most popular films with 78M views in its first four weeks. Further details regarding the project are yet to be announced.
