Escapers ride train to freedom in ‘The Underground Railroad’

Amazon Prime Video has released the trailer of the upcoming drama ‘The Underground Railroad’. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colsen Whitehead, the web series will premiere on May 14, 2021.

Directed by Academy Award-winner Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), the historical fiction drama follows the story of an enslaved African-American, Cora, who comes across a railroad built underground that could help her escape the sufferings.

‘The Underground Railroad’ stars Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon, Aaron Pierre and Joel Edgerton, William Jackson Harper, Amber Gray and Damon Herriman in pivotal roles. The limited web series is produced under the banners Plan B Entertainment and Pastel Productions.

The official synopsis reads:

“The Underground Railroad is a new series that chronicles Cora Randall’s desperate bid for freedom in the Antebellum South. After escaping a Georgian plantation for the rumoured Underground Railroad, Cora discovers no mere metaphor, but an actual railroad beneath the Southern soil.”
