Netflix’s ‘The Woman in the Window’ based on murder witness

Netflix has released the trailer for ‘The Woman in the Window’, an adaptation of A.J Finn’s bestselling novel of the same name. Directed by Joe Wright, it is set to stream from May 14.

The narrative surrounds Anna Fox (Amy Adams), a child psychologist with agoraphobia, who witnesses a crime from her window. As the official synopsis reads: “Her life is turned upside down when she inadvertently witnesses a brutal crime.”

Shot two years ago in a realistically set-up studio, ‘The Woman in the Window’ has found its release after much struggle. The film takes place almost entirely inside the home-confined psychologist’s apartment.

Director Wright stated about rewriting the screenplay: “There were some plot points that people found a bit confusing — I would say possibly too opaque maybe. So we had to go back and clarify certain points.”

‘The Woman in the Window’ belongs to a lineage of window murder thrillers, including masterpieces such as Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’ and the more recent film ‘Disturbia’.

The film stars Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Fred Hechinger, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry, Tracy Letts, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Julianne Moore.
